Pain drugs are a good thing!!
Hi Ellen....Most definately will be praying for you.Yes indeed, you should be getting some very good pain control.Ask your thorasic surgeon for either a PCA (patient controlled analgesia, where you can control and push the button for your morphine or dilaudid, or even ask if they use whats called a pain ball.It is usually a combination of a marcaine/bupivicane numbing agents and a medication for pain specically, and that tubing is placed very near to the incision site. Many patients find benefit from this.It is automatic pain relief. you don't have to do anything.
Your profile picture is very pretty! So please, know that we are thinking about you and hoping for the best outcome possible.
Stay strong,Cathy.P.S.Have you tried tesselon pearls for your cough?I hear they work well.0 -

Thank you very much for the kind remark on the profile picture. I can not do the morphine but they did give me dilaudid last time. My GP and the surgeon know that I have severe back problems and they both said I might want to skip the epidural. When I had the wedge resection I skipped it and they kept me so drugged the first 3 days that I still do not know anything of those days. Good drugs I guess. I know that they said I fell asleep face first in my food once and don't remember that! LOL Yes I have tried the pearls and even on the codine cough syrup...nothing is helping. I cough so bad that my side and boob hurts where I had surgery a few months ago. I thank you all for the prayers and thoughts. I will miss you all. Be safe and as always you are all in my prayers!!0 -

sending blessings......
I will be praying for you and your surgeon ellen. Sorry you have to go thru this once again! I had a lobectomy in May, 2011 with a full thorocotomy. It is a tough one but doable. Take it easy on yourself for a few days but make sure you do your breathing exercises and then start walking around asap. There are some really good breathing exercises on youtube. I think you can just type in breathing exercises and they will come up. I found them to really help with pain also. Oxygenated blood is a great healer also. Since pain meds also will constipate you, may I recommend natural calm? It comes in a powder form with flavors if desired, and you mix it with hot water to make a hot tea. It is a magnesium drink but works great. Stool softeners have alot of unwanted chemicals whereas Natural Calm is well....natural! You can find it at most nutrition stores. Don't be afraid to ask for pain meds if you need them. You can do this....stay strong, stay positive and keep breathing! Cheryl0
