Starting new treatment today-call in for the pink bus

I am starting the Faslodex injections today as well as the Zometa infusions for my new bone mets. From a couple of people, I've heard that the Faslodex injections are quite painful--it is the consistency of syrup and they have to put it in real slow. Ouch--I hate pain. I'm not crazy about starting the Zometa (because of the rare occurence of osteonecrosis of the jaw), but my onc. says it's a must.

Anyway, I need you rowdy pinks crowded on the bus and in that room with me. Someone please bring a pitcher of something so that I don't feel the pain!

    Don't forget the TUMS...
    Renee...remember to take Tums with you...chew 2 when the infusion starts...2after lunch... 2 after dinner...2 at bedtime to ward off possible flu like symptoms from the Zometa...the Zometa infusion is a relatively quick one, too...

    I've always got the job of liquor or brownies....but I happen to know you're partial to lemon drop martinis so I've got a sugar rimmed glass here just for you.

    Babysitting my granddaughter today and thinking about you doing the same very soon:)

    Yep I will be there! The faslodex doesn't sound like much fun...but as our dear Chen says "we do what we have to do, so we can do what we want to do". I hope this course of treatment gives you many years to do what you want.

    And so glad that Vicoria is covering the magic brownies and booze so there will be limiteed pain. Let us know how you are doing. Hopefully the Zometa will also help with the tailbone pain.

    I hope it wasnt too painful.
    I hope it wasnt too painful. I have had 3 zometa treatments 6 months apart. the first treatment had all the side effects, they lessened with each treatment. so if you dont feel well take heart.

    Emla Patches?
    Hi Renee,

    Wishing you the best with this new protocol.

    Perhaps ask for "Emla patches" to place on the areas the shots will be given in order to be pain free. I plan on doing this when I am back on Faslodex when this experiment I'm on fails. I used it on my port when I did chemo and never felt a jab. It comes in a cream that you place on the area that is going to be hit and then put a patch on top of it an hour before your appointment.

    I use a lidocaine patch on the tendon in my ankle daily. It helps for a little while. Direction says "good for 10 hours" but, all my docs laughed at that one. I agree, it's less than 3. Sometimes, when the nerve pain in my arm becomes unbearable, I slap one on to calm it down.

    Lidocaine patches might help but I do know those "Emla patches" did their job with a needle.

    We h!ad such a rowdy bunch, yesterday!
    Victoria was busy.. busy.. busy mixing up the cocktails! I may of had one too many
    sour appletinis!

    I endured many of those loooong needles with fertility drugs -- long needles needed due
    to the thick syrupy hormones -- what sometime helped with that knots left in your buttocks
    was placing a bag of frozen peas on the site for 15 minutes, several times.

    Gentle hugs and prayers for minimal side efforts my friend.
