new to breast cancer, i am a survivor

Just my story ...
lumpectomy first -- no clear margins -- so I opted for a 2nd opinion, found a
Breast Cancer Specialist. I then decided on a bilateral mastectomy, again my
choice.

chemo, surgery then reconstruction. No radiation as I had no natural breasts
or old tissue to radiate.

Among breast cancer patients who need/choose surgery, chemo, and rdiation, I've only ever heard of two approaches, depending on their particular diagnosis: 1) surgery first, then 2) chemo, then 3)radiation, OR 1) chemo first, then 2) surgery, then 3) radiation.

I've met survivors of other forms of cancer who've done more of a "sandwich" approach, but never breast cancer -- perhaps this is a new way of approaching treatment?

I think we'll all be very interested to hear why your doctor is suggesting this, and how it goes for you -- and, of course, we're here for all the support and hugs you need!

There's also - 1) Chemo first, then 2) Surgery, then 3) more Chemo and finally 4) Radiation. That's what I did for IBC.

I had a lumpectomy with clear margins and then started rads about 6 weeks later, no chemo.
