Low white cell count months after chemo

in Lymphoma (Hodgkin and Non-Hodgkin) #1
Hello, I just finished chemo 3-1/2 months ago. Last week, I had my counts checked and my white cells had fallen to .9 and my neutrophils to .3. Just two weeks earlier, my white count was 3.2 and neutrophils were 1.75. My hemoglobin and red are normal ranges and platelets are improving. I had it rechecked today, and there wasn't an improvement. The doctor says this happens sometimes and not to worry. But, I am worried and wondered if anyone else had this happen?

    I had the same thing happen
    I had the same thing happen to me a little over 4 months after Chemo. They wait two weeks to recheck it and it was back up above the danger zone. I wouldn't worry just yet - especially if your doctor isn't terribly concerned. I'm sure they'll keep a close eye on it and take action if they think it becomes a problem.

    3 weeks after my last chemo I had neutropenic fever causee by 0 white cell count. I was in the hospital for seven days. I was in isolation. Found out later about 50% of the people have it after chemo. That was alomost two years ago. Wed. I final by 2 years on Rituxan.
    The scary thing about the low counts is you can catch anything and have nothing to fight it. That is why I was hospitalized.

    One Year Out
    I finished chemotherapy and radiation in December 2010. I just had blood work done up and my WBC counts, which were in the 5 range the previous two times, have now dropped to 3.8. My doctor states he isn't worried, but I wonder if anyone else has had WBC counts drop this long after treatment. Thank you in advance for your responses.

    Your white cells can drop if
    Your white cells can drop if you have or had any type of infection, including a viral infection such as a cold.
