Time for an update on Bob

Bob will be released from the hospital tomorrow. He is healing very well, and that is his job for the next 4-6 weeks. He has had a bronchoscopy and where they resected the trachea is healing nicely. No cancer was found inside the trachea so that was a very good thing. The esophagus was not resected and that open area will allow for easier radiation, should that be the plan. We will return, hopefully well healed, after 4 weeks, and meet with the radiology/oncologist, regular oncologist, another bronchoscopy, our surgeon, and go from there. The wait will be hard. We are going to look at this as a blessing in disguise. Had it shown on the PET scan, or been known at all, that the cancer had skipped over to the aorta and trachea there would have been no surgery. So, with over 95% now gone we will pray for the doctors to have a plan on what to do next. It has been 8 days since our shocking news, and honestly, I think we are both still in shock. Just so hard to believe this has happened and so fast. Linda

    Prayers to you both!
    Linda,

What a rock you've been for Bob! I'm hopeful that Bob is able to take the next 4 weeks and put them to good healing. You've got quite the schedule of doc appointments coming up.

You are in my thoughts and prayers!

    Bob's Update
    Hi Linda:

Thank you for the update - we've been thinking about you two. We are hoping all goes well and the healing is quick and the docs have the next plan in place for you. This is certainly going to be a difficult wait and your positive attitude is wonderful. To see this as a blessing in disguise is brilliant - I think you may just be right about that!

Hugs and super positive healing mojo coming to you both!

You definitely have the right attitude
    Linda,

Bob is lucky to have a strong advocate like you at his side as you both work your way through this latest challenge. I will be praying for rapid and complete healing and a plan to deal with the cancer while maintaining a good quality of life for both of you.

I am so happy to hear he is
I am so happy to hear he is recovering well, and the good news about there being no cancer in the trachea. Regarding the blessing in disguise - we would feel the exact same way. Your husband is in great hands there, so hopefully that is at least one variable off your mind. You guys are in my nightly prayers!

Home, and it feels so good.
We arrived home late today. It was a 10 day hospital stay and then a 6 hour ride back home. It is so good to be back. Now he just needs to heal. I probably didn't word it well, but he did have spread to the aorta and the trachea, but no lesions, or cancer were found inside when the bronchoscopy was done. So it hasn't penetrated, just on the outside. The trachea was disected and resected removing as much of the cancer as they could. I believe they can only remove so much and then have enough to reconnect. So new staging is T4N0M0.

Thank you for all of the prayers and kind words. Linda

    Happy you are home
There's no place like home! Prayers continue for you, Bob, and the family. You are strong and such a good caregiver. A great example for the rest of us, Linda.
