1-20-12 Update Stage IV, another Brain Met

Good Morning All!

Well....this week I found out I have a new 2cm tumor on left side of cerebrum this time, Tumor Board is concerned the cancer is very active-it grew to this size in 3 months. I will undergo Gamma Knife next week as well as a full body Pet/Ct---hope cancer is not back and elsewhere because the gamma knife should take care of the brain quite well.

The Board is talking maybe a clinical trial on a chemo pill that will cross the blood/brain barrier and keep future Mets at bay. We finally pulled out of my Onc that she thinks two years of life left for me is about right, that will get me 3.5 years from DX.

At 48 yr old, I feel I will be on the far end of any experience/statistics, and go farther!!!

WBR does looks like a very last alternative as far as I am concerned, too many issues with that.

    Sorry to hear the bad news, but glad to read that there is at least some hope and that your spirits are still up. No telling what can happen in the next couple of years, anyway, with all they have going on now in terms of research and discovery.

    Dave, I am sorry about the brain met, but very glad that they will zap it with the gamma. Did you ever get a chance to go to inspire and read about G stage4survivor who went through the same issues with brain mets? Very inspiring to me. I am so glad they have a way to treat the brain mets with gamma. I hope that the chemo pill will be the next great trial to prove successful with crossing the blood/brain barrier. I wish you the best and keep us posted. Lori

    You are such an inspiration to me, with everything you have been through and what you are now going to have to go through and you still manage to stay in such good spirits and encourage the rest of us. I know you are stronger than me because I have still never had the nerve to ask the doctors how much longer I have. Part of me wants to know and part of me doesn't :)

    Will be praying that the gamma knife gets all of the cancer and the PET shows no activity anywhere else.

    I am also hoping for a clinical trial but that's a whole new story that I will post later.

    Hey Dave, awesome attitude.....probably why you keep pushing the odds. Sometimes the miracle is not in healing, but the ability to take whatever journey comes your way and touch others with hope the entire time. I, for one, hope you do beat the odds but I can tell all those around you are lucky you are all journeying together........soak up some sun for me in Florida!!!!

    1-24-12 Update
    Hello Family !

    Pet/CT of body turned up NED. Still can see scarred right upper lobe and both lower lobes due to infections and pnuemonia but all is good!
    Got Gamma Knife yet tomorrow on brain for one 1" tumor, but GF is usually quite successful.

    Thanx for all the support!, good for a number of months now!
