Dad passed his swallow test!

I haven't been on this board much the past week as I have been busy with Mom and Dad. I feel almost guilty writing how well my Dad is doing. I am home today, back to work. I was with him for a week and very happy to be able to do that.
Dad has his entire stomach removed and about 2-5 cm of the esophagus. The tumor was actually at the top of the stomach. They found cancer in 4-5 lymph nodes right along the stomach. His surgery was last Tuesday and his recovery had been almost perfect. I feel so grateful in a way I have never felt before. I also feel like I've aged 10 years. It's something else having to take care of your parents - wow. I think he will be going home tomorrow. My Mom is taking everything not so well. A lot of my time was trying to keep her going. Now I am looking for diet information and other helpful hints for recovery at home.
Thanks for reading, everyone.

Its a good day!
Thank you for the good news. One day at a time and when the day is good, you just want to shout it from the roof top!
Good luck on your search for diet information. This site has a lot of links, but there is so much that changes for the individual.
Good luck for mom too!
God Bless,

Great news
Jen, Great news that your dad has passed his swallow test. I enjoyed being able to meet you and talk with you this past week. It sounds like your dad is doing very well. I'm sure your mom misses you, but it is so good that things are going well and you could stay for most of the hospital time. I'm sure the time with you was so good for both of them. Linda0 -

Great news, Jen!
Glad you were able to be there for your parents! It is an aging experience, isn't it? I know I felt like years had been added after Nick and I were through this.
I hope your mother is able to come to terms with EC. There will be a lifetime of impact on their lives.
Paul has put out some great diet tips for post EC. Wish I could point you directly to them. Glad the news is good
Love & Hugs,
Terry0
