Growth on Thyroid

Do not wait....
I can tell you from personal experience that my endocrinologist found a small nodule on my thyroid in March 2010. He's a GREAT guy--said we could biopsy or watch it for 6 months & look at it again. I chose to have it biopsied & it was papillary thyroid cancer--& I had positive lymph nodes. I had surgery & Radioactive Iodine treatment twice. I still have persistent disease in my lymph nodes that will have to come out at some point. Fast forward to December 2011--I have Stage 1 IDC. Again a small "abnormality" on my films. But once again, I was proactive & went straight down to MDAnderson (where I was already a thyroid cancer patient) & went thru their undiagnosed breast cancer clinic. They found it immediately on the ultrasound. I go for my lumpectomy on Friday. It is early & a small tumor. Hopefully I will get to do a short schedule of rads afterwards.
My point is....don't wait around....see if there is a cancellation & go ASAP. You're right--it might be nothing......but you just NEVER KNOW!! Good luck--keep us posted.

90% are pretty good odds, however, it is better to be SAFE, than sorry.
20 years ago, I found out that I had thyroid cancer - after a routine check up. Due to my young age 00000 I had been assured by several specialist that it was 'not cancer' due to my age, and size of tumor .. well, lo and behold --- it turned out to be cancer. After a total thyroidectomy, and radium treatment, which was the course of action back in the day ---.
In my late 20's .. cervical cancer, In my early 40's -- breast cancer -- Just my story - and history.
Good luck, and I'll be keeping you in my prayers.
Strength, Courage and Hope.

Helen, I know that anxious feeling of having to wait. My mind plays all sorts of scenarios out in my head. I would keep pursuing answers as well. Just to have peace of mind. Know that I am thinking of you, and hoping for a great clear report~
Take care, and keep us posted.

more data
I had a lump on my thyroid *after* breast cancer and treatment. The US looked Ok but we had a biopsy an it was benign. But there was a fluid filled cyst and filled up again in about a year so I had half of my thyroid removed in July. I'm glad I did it-at least I don't have to worry about *that* bump!

Don't wait
I got lumps which became tumors in my thyroid after bc treatment. First only on the left side, then, completely covered my left side. Had a biopsy, said benign, but found 4 more tumors on the right side which we watched grow and my thyroid function changed. So endocrinologist decided it was time to remove the thyroid. The findings came back 'atypical but not yet cancer". This was in November of 2009. In May of 2009, had gross amounts of blood in the urine, had a tests done, Urologist said he was 99% sure that was cancer. Was lucky on that one also, had a resection of the bladder, was scheduled for a bag, but when they biopsied tumors during surgery, came back 'atypical but not yet cancer'.
So in 2009 I felt like I was on a search and destroy mission with tumors. February 2010, was when I first found the skin 'lumps". My Endocrinologist sent me to a dermatologist for a biops. He said the lumps were not cancerous and would not biopsy them. In September of 2010 when I was diagnosed with bone mets, my oncologist looked at the skin lumps sent me to a surgeon who biopsied one on my back and it was positive for bc mets to the skin.
I also had cervical cancer at 22. I say if you are not comfortable with something go with your gut feelings. Maybe they would have found the bone mets almost a year earlier if the dermatologist would have followed the other doctors orders and I could have started treatment before the mets were through all my bones.
Always follow what you feel is best, it is your body and we know our bodies better than most doctors, we live in it every day! I listen to my body and speak up when I feel it is necessary.
Good luck and I hope all the best for you.

Did you have the sonogram yet Helen and what are your results? Praying that they will be good!

I had the sonogram and they
I had the sonogram and they couldn't find the lump. So the test came up negative. Guess we're just going to keep an eye on it because I felt it too, hopefully it was just a swollen gland. Thanks for all of the well wishes & thoughts. They really help.
