post surgery side effects

Hi all,
I am 4 days post for hand assist left neph and the last 2 nights, one in hospital and one at home, I get chilled, then a few minutes later sweating. My temp was checked often and was normal. It was so bad last night I had to change my shirt. Could this be side effects from the anesthesia, morphine, etc., or just from the healing process? Anyone else experience this? Any other side effects I might encounter?
Thanks,
Wayne

Chills
Wayne
I too had these chills and sweats, both in my hospital bed & at home. The nurse changed the sheets on my bed one night. They told my wife to keep on measuring my temp at home to make sure it wasn't an infection, all measurements were 'normal'. Glad to hear you are at home, take it easy, give yourself a chance to heal.
Be well

This is just part of the initation to the club. Everyone has different aches and pains those first couple of weeks. Things will get better.
Best wishes,

I had this too....
Hi Wayne,
I too went through this and mine lasted for 2 months! I would wake up several times an hour and throw off my covers because I was drenched in sweat and then I'd wake back up minutes later because I was freezing. I also would have to change my pj's more then once per night. I would have the chills and sweats during the day, too, but it was moreso at night.
I asked about this on several message boards and didn't get a whole lot of answers. I deduced it was either after affects of the anesthesia or the surgery had messed up my hormones. Since you are male and having this problem, I'm thinking it has to be after affects of the anesthesia. I hope you get past it faster then I did. Wishing you a speedy recovery.
Blessings,
Lisa0
