Surgery update on Bob

Surgery was yesterday for Bob's recurrence and the news was totally unexpected. The local tumor in the esophagus was removed but was found to had grown into the aorta and trachea. 95% , or more, of the tumor was removed, but our surgeon could not get clean margins. Bob is doing well, a think even faster than his first surgery. Even with a PET scan it was not able to detect beforehand as it was directly in back of the esophagus. We still have to watch for any complications for the next few days. He will need 4-5 weeks of healing and time for the specialists to review to see if any further radiation, or treatment can be of help. This breaks my heart. I love him so. Linda

    So very sad
    Linda,

I am so very sorry to hear this news. I am sure the surgical results were a huge shock to you both. I guess we all assume these kind of things would show up in scans in advance of the surgery. It certainly hurts to hear this. I will be praying for Bob's recovery; and peace for both of you as you define your new path forward.

    Linda,
I can hear the heartache in your latest post. I am so very sorry to hear the latest news. As others have said, there just are not any words to say how devastated we all are for you and Bob. What a horrible shock to have to digest.
I also will continue to pray for you, Bob and the team of doctors, who can hopefully come up with a plan of action. Wishing speedy healing and no complications as well.

I'm saddened to hear this unexpected news. Going in knowing this surgery would be challenging is one thing. To have another challenging road ahead of you is another. I pray the medical teams working with you are able to come up with a plan that suits Bob and the new challenges.
