Weight loss
I went in at 168, left at 162... Now I'm down to 155. My appetite is pretty good and I've been eating 3 meals a day. I just can't figure out why I'm losing weight!

Weight loss...
Rick,
I don't know the reason but it seems to be a normal part of recovery for most and a common concern. It may just be that your body is consuming excessive amounts of fuel while going through the healing process. It should level off and gradually the weight will return and stabilize near where you were when all this started, at least that's what I experienced.

My son lost weight and has not put it back on. We do give him a protein packed smoothie every morn w bananas, a vegan protein powder, mangos, avocado, tbl of cinnamon and at least one other fruit. It might help.

Yep, Rick. I went in at 154 (Dec. 5th), had rt. kidney and 8cm. tumour removed, ate hardly anything in 6 days in hospital and came out at 162! SInce then I've gone to 142, but back up to 145 today. I feel fine and intend to try to put only good weight back on so I'm not intending to try to regain weight except by re-building muscle mass. As Gary says, it seems a common experience and not something you should worry about.0 -

I lost about 10 pounds after surgery. Here it is 11 months later and I've gained 20.0 -
Weight loss
Between sinus surgery in August and nephrectomy in October I lost a total of 30 pounds. (Which I really needed to loose.) Have only gained 5 pounds back!!!0 -

Well done Doug but I thought foxes are supposed to look svelte! (Still chuckling about the green bananas!)
I hope keephopealive11 is following this and feeling a bit more confident going into surgery in a week's time.0 -
Thx all...
Thanks for the info folks...
I also spoke to a trauma/ICU nurse that's a friend: she said weight loss is likely due to my metabolism kicking into high gear to make repairs (as some of you noted). I'm trying to eat more than normal -- I really don't want to drop any more weight -- but I'm about maxed out on eating! LOL ... Maybe I need more fattening foods
