Update on Dad (Jerry)

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!!! My, what a year it's been, looking forward to a more positive one. My dad Jerry, who was diagnosed as T4N3 IIc May of 2011, had his latest results from PET/CT scan this past week. To the oncologists' surprise, the 9cm tumor at the base of the esophagus was almost gone, except for a little spot to the area as well as a lymph node. No mets to anywhere else. Dad's oncologist updated Dr. Nguyen from Irvine and he said NO surgery needed. He will have to go go back to his Dr to see what will be needed next. According to the Dr. , maybe chemo/radiation or possibly just chemo (Xeloda) for another 2 weeks and will possibly do another scan.
This is such a miracle, the doctors were VERY surprised at how much the tumor shrank.
I thank this site, after meeting WONDERFUL people here, especially The Marshall's, who with their experience, their research AND their undying faith, guided us into the right direction. Our faith in the Lord has grown so much, It's bringing more positivity to my dad and my mom. We certainly believe in the power of prayer, wherever this may lead us, we don't know, we hope and pray things will be better. We're trying to take things day by day, being grateful for what we have now, for NO ONE is promised tomorrow.
Take care everyone, may the Lord bless and keep every one on this site in HIS wonderful care, sending love from Hawaii to everyone else.

Dad's Update
Thanks for this really positive update. Those seem to be few and far between some days and we need to hear when people are doing WELL in their recovery. Today is day 30 since I got out of the hospital after a 52-day inpatient stay for surgery, so I'm really glad to hear your dad doesn't have to go through removal of the esphagus. We'll be leaving for Hawaii in 2 days. I'm ready to get out of this cold, snowy weather for a week.0
