Nose blocking NPC

Hi

I've my radiation treatment finished a month ago and still my nose is always blocking. I will have to clear it by time to time. Any of you have the same experience as I do?

Any comments and suggestion, appreciated!

    Nasal Blockage

My husband had the same problems right after treatment due to swelling and mucus build up in the sinus. The only thing he could do was to wait for the swelling to go down and use a sinus rinse 3 times a day to clean the mucus out. He still does the sinus rinse everyday and at night uses Breathe Right nasal strips.

    I hope this helps you

    No hair
    Hi sumarah8,

I lost my hairs after second round of Chemo so it's one of the side effects. Most people say it will come back but not sure how long.

    cheers,

    Let's have a contest
Mine also came out after second round. I'm now five weeks out from my last chemo. No hair yet. I look pretty good bald, though....

    It should clear up
I had the same experience. My nose was very congested after rads which made me worry. My medical oncologist recommended nasal irrigation and seemed to help. My congestion cleared about a few weeks later. I am mostly clear now. Sometimes I wake up in the morning slightly congested but I attribute that to things being so dry because of having the heat on.

    Hi Neo

Just give it time my friend for the swelling to go down; also ask your ENT when you can start using some type of nasal rinse and how often you should do it. Congratulations on finishing your treatment, in a few months a lot of things will all start to come back like taste and hunger.

Have a great recovery my friend and God bless and keep you in his care.

    Nose blocking
    Hi Neo,

Same for me. I blame all my current woes on the neck dissection which followed so closely my treatment. I guess though that that is circumstance and it is in fact the radio.

I try to avoid too much dairy which thickens my mucous and drink loads of water. If it gets really clogged up (like when you get a cold/flu) then I will pop an anti-inflammatory something, ibuprofen, sudofed or similar and use saline rinse.

Wife lost all her hair. Still growing back now. Nose she has been using a nettipot 4 or 5 times a day. Still uses it every day twice. You have to keep up a regiment. It is your job, your life.

    Hi Neo
After my treatment I had to get tubes put in both ears to keep them drained. More then likely the radiation has damage the natural tubes coming from the ears that drain into your throat. It was a few years after my treatment when my natural ear tubes opened again and I did not need the ear tubes anymore. But now 6 years later they block and open and block again. So the holes in my ears are good in one way for when the tubes block, part of the new normal you my friend.

I cannot find my link for
I cannot find my link for this, and I could swear I put it on the Superthread when I was going through my double ear infection, but I cannot find it. Often times one of the side effects of radiation is that the eustachian tubes get screwed up or something and your ears cam get blocked up or get infections. I had a double ear infection for a few months. He was going to pit tubes in my ears, but doesnt want to, unless absolutely necessary. My left ear still isn't perfect, but it's livable. If you google about it, I'm sure you will find an article. Sorry I cannot find where I put that link. I even tried to search for the post I know I put it in originally in a thread back in July, to no avail.

The only time my nose gets blocked and stuffy is at night. Keeping my window cracked and running the humidifier helps some.

    Appointment with Onco today
    Hi Sweetblood, Tim and Others,

Thanks for your reply. To update my situation .....

I've an appointment with my rad-onco today for nasal endoscopy. As Tim and Sweetblood mentioned, my left eustachian tube is blocked due to radiation that hearing from my left ear is less than right but no infection. So my onco just let it go in the mean time and it will heal in due course.(might be)

I have an another appointment for PET scan end of this month and follow up with rad-onco after scan.

    cheers,
    Neo
