in Peritoneal Cancer #1
This is my first time writing on this board, but I have been reading the discussions for about two months. My mom is 75 and was recently diagnosed with PPC. I had never heard of PPC and mistakenly went to Google to educate myself. After a few days of utter panic I came across this site. From that day on, I feel equipped to ask the doctors questions, catch chemo side effects early and support Mom and the rest of my family with relevant information. Mom is on her third round of carbo/taxol and other than losing her hair, fatigue and lack of appetite is doing very well. I don't have any questions, because over time you have answered all of them. I just wanted to say thank you to all of you for sharing your information, struggles and victories.

    Janet,
    I am also fairly new to this site and supporting my 76 year old mom with secondary peritoneal cancer resulting from gallbladder cancer. We just started chemo and are navigativing these waters. Stay in touch and let us know how mom is doing. I felt the same as you after reading this board and it has now become a daily ritual to check on the status of our friends on here to see what new info is available re: treatments, diagnosis and sideeffects. Stay strong and stay with us!!

    Good News
    Nice to meet you ladies! We got the results of Mom's most recent CT scan yesterday and there has been a decrease in the tumor size and ascites. We know we have a long road ahead of us, but it's good to know that we are going the right direction!

    Take the small victories. My mom finished her second chemo treatment and is upstairs on the computer right now!! She feels fine. We have found that day 3 and 4 are her "cloudy days" in which she can't seem to get out of her own way. Overall, we have no complaints. Enjoy the weekend and keep in touch,

    I am also one of the caregivers to my mum with ppc. Mum is 63 this year and was diagnosed in feb 2011 with primary ppc stage IV which means the cancer has spread outside her bowel (to lungs). She is doing quite well after 8 rounds of carbo/taxol. Now she is in remission which means she is currently on holiday with her husband in Thailand! She will check in at her onc in mid-February for next step which will be still in remission and treatment with hormones or switching to Gemzar if ca125 is up again. For her, the first 3-4 rounds of chemo was the worst, getting used to all side effects. But now she is dealing with it much better. We hope to have her around some more years!

    Welcome, Janet (((((( ))))))))
    I hope that you find all the support ane the information that you seek. But remember that we aren't the experts. We're the ones on the other side of the chemo with its side-effects.

    I'm not sure I can be online as frequently as in the past, so forgive me if it takes a while to hear back from me. Good thing that there are so many others here who can help you :)
