trouble swallowing

in Colorectal Cancer #1
Anyone have trouble swallowing? Food gets stuck at Adams Apple. Sometimes liquid hurts going down at sternum and it hurts in middle of back. I'm on 4th tx of second cycle of folfox. They are scheduling an endoscopy. Just curious if this happened to anyone else. Oh, the heartburn too. Nexium almost daily. Looking forward to hearing from you. Thanks.

    Hi Jamie,
    When I was doing Folfox w/Avastin, I also had horrific heartburn. I still have it just being on Avastin only but not as bad. I don't remember having the pain swallowing, only the 'broken glass' feeling in my throat when swallowing anything cold. Hope it gets better for you. I only did 7 treatments before they put me on Avastin only; coming up on my 7th treatment of that next Friday. Good luck with your treatments! Take care.

    My comes and goes usually after treatment there are times it is hard to swallow. Anytime there can be bad heart burn and lot's of belching. I try to avoid eating too much when this is happening. Hope it gets better.

    Thanks Pam. This is not the cold related stuff. This is the act of swallowing. I feel like there is something stuck in there. There doesn't seem to be a temperature issue. It's like the plumbing is too narrow. It's quite annoying and worrisome. I'm thinking....not again.

    My wife has been experiencing that. Docs told her to drink more water, which taste so weird she doesn't want to drink it.

    My husband...
    has occasional reflux and heartburn too from folfox. Also, food does not taste the same to him. Three days ago, his throat ached and he could barely swallow. So, his oncologist took a look at his throat and told him it was thrush, which happens to some chemo patients. He is on medication for the next 9 days and hopefully it will clear up soon. Still is difficult to swallow but is a bit better today. Take care!

    Some thyroid problems like a mild thyroiditis or inflammation can make it hard to swallow without being obvious, especially if they use an old TSH range from a single, lousy test type, instead of a full panel.

    Thrush and Miracle Mouthwash
    Jamie,
    During Folfox, I had Thrush twice and the burning sensation with upper GI issues. Needed medicine similar to a yeast infection and the Miracle Mouthwash worked great for those ulcer like symptoms. You swish in the mouth, gargle it in the throat and swallow to treat your entire Upper GI Tract.

    Also, try to stay hydrated. It helps all your muscles and joints including your swallowing muscles.

    NB....recall the name of the med? I've got no sores, just that feeling something is stuck, along with heartburn issues. Scope is Thursday!!!! All this got started over email with docs at Moffitt.....I love I can email my onc and surgeon. So lucky. I love Moffitt. I really would like the make of med if u can remember. Thanks so much.

    It is called Miracle Mouthwash I had prescribed by my Oncologist at Mayo Rochester MN. The Pharmacist mixes it up. It cleanses the mouth, soothes the throat, and settles any acid reflux.     EGD results
    Mild esophagitis. Diet changes and Nexium for three months then follow up with pcp. Got chemo #4. Two to go. Yeeee haaaa. Then we'll follow up with scans every three months. Cleared for exercise from Oct 7 sigmoid lymph node met surgery. Everything will be just fine. Thank you for all your concerns and replies. Love and light, Jamie
