severe pain in abdomen

Hi guys

Dad is having severe pain in abdomen right of umblicus since past 3 days after ivor lewis surgery on 28 th december cat scan and x ray are normal no cause could be known. Gastrographic test was also performed 3 days back it showed no leakages. Stools and toilet are normal. Doctors have not been able to idetenify the cause of it and dad is in severe pain , plz if any of u ever has faced the same problem let me know....

    Well, the good news is that the doctors have ruled out some major issues at this point.

    There is quite a bit of pain at times. Could it be related to the jtube (I'm guessing he has one). My husband's tubing did some migration but was corrected. What is the rate of his tube feedings. Surely not an infection near the incision.

    I really shouldn't be posting as I don't know. We had issues with some less than knowledgeable floor staff not understanding the small capacity of the jejunum and would overfill it too quickly. It really caused pain and distention. I had to monitor very closely.

    Hope you find an answer soon.

    I recall that Nick had pretty bad abdomenal pain following his THE surgery (IL, junior basically). We put it to pretty big changes had been made in his tummy area. His interior was just grumbling - loudly.

    Although BMGky has a good point about possible feeding tube association.

    I hope they figure out for your dad quickly. It's awful to be in pain without having an idea when it might end.

    Thanks for u r kind words ....I was speaking to doctor and he said it might be because of his body not accepting the j tube they will wait for today and if it continues they will take it out ...let's hope it relives the pain

    Terry in nick's case wat did da doctors do to relive the pain and was the pain associated with just the surgery or some infection need more info

    Nick's pain was directly surgery related
    Nick's pain was treated with normal post surgery meds. He had the spinal block in for 3 days, maybe 4, following surgey. Then once that was pulled, they tried Diladid, but that gave Nick nightmares, so he was moved to a morphine variant.

    Your dad's issue may be different from Nick's. Nick's pain truly was because his interior had been so messed with. Time and pain meds healed that for him.

    I hope the cause of your dad's pain is found soon.
