Hi All
As those of you who have followed us, Mark is stg iv with mets to the lungs and now mets to the bones, they were suspected but now confirmed.
After a couple of months of telling our Onc of pains to the hips and knees, we finally had an X-Ray done to those areas and have found that the Cancer has actually eaten into his hip and left a hole there, he is now waiting in hospital, to have a rod inserted to strengthen the area between his hip and knee, if he had fallen at any time he could have fractured his hip and caused all sorts of problems, they are calling this a preventative surgery, yet it is still pretty major, the recovery period is somewhere between 4-6 weeks all going well.
I am really angry that it took them this long and so much pushing to identify the problem yet glad they found it before major damage could have taken place, for those of you who are caretakers please keep pushing, sometimes it seems that without getting in their faces you get nowhere, harsh as it is we know when something is wrong, we live with it daily and our gut instinct is better than any degree, as I said really angry yet hopeful that finally Mark will have some relief from pain and hoping the rod they insert will help strengthen his legs.
Sorry guys needed a rant, your prayers for tomorrow will be appreciated.

    Hi Ann,
    So glad they found the problem but share your frustration about having to push. The caregivers and sometimes the patients have to be their own best advocates to fight for answers to continuing problems. After my surgery and post op chemo I kept saying I could not breathe right and coughed so much but the drs kept saying this was normal. Turned out after a CT scan they found out I had permanent damage to a lung. Having a medical background helped but everyone can do this. YOu ask and ask till they listen. Sorry that
    Mark has to go thru this surgery and you are right, it is certainly not a minor procedure. Good luck with this and hope he gets some relief from all the pain. take care, prayers coming your way.

    Ann,

    You have a lot on your plate....rant all you want. Its ok for us to get angry sometimes. We keep a brave face on so much of the time, there has to be times when we just need to complain.

    I will be praying for you and Mark tomorrow.

    Hi Ann, so sorry to hear about Mark's new development. I hope that the surgery goes smoothly and without complication.
    Ranting does the soul good, I'd say. I know I did my share, and always felt better afterwards. Prayers and hugs to you.....

    So sorry to hear this. Hope the surgery and recovery go very well for Mark.

    I am a 'pushy' one too - and I personally don't see anything wrong with being pushy when it comes to the health and welfare of your loved ones. If you don't 'push' for them, who will?

    Most everyone here on this site told me it is OK to rant - that's one of the reasons I like this site/people so well. We are free to be who we are and everyone is very supportive of that.

    Glad you pushed, Ann!
    If we don't stand for our loved ones, who will? Glad you're there fighting for Mark. I'm sure he is as well.

    Sounds like a lovely surgery they have planned for him :p Poor fellow! Still, it's better, much better, than a broken hip or worse.

    Keep your faith and bring your frustrations to us. That's why we are all here, isn't it?
