    Taste wise, it depends on
Taste wise, it depends on how they are prepared. I don't like the pancakes, to me the have like a sort of earthy taste (like a mushroom is earthy, if that makes sense) and a little fermented like hoppy beer. But that just might be me. I can eat a little if it's cooked like a pilaf, like you would, say barley. Lots of onions and garlic. It's been years and years since I made it. I would make them with the bow ties, because it was a traditional dish that my friend had in her culture when she was little, and she liked it.

Not a fan of bitter greens, so I don't do kale, but lentil soup with spinach, is a staple dish for me. How are they difficult to cook time wise? Like labor intensive? If you ever need a hand with unfamiliar ingredients, just ask, Rick, I can probably help.

    Cooks up fast
Sweet, I imagine the Kale takes another ten minuetes or so past the lentils which as you know cook up in 15 minutes or so. No labor involved at all. I may try it with spinach next time as the kale can be a little bitter. I eat it for the nutrient content which is said to rival that of steak.

You wrote, " I currently have four vegan cookbooks. The stuff in them is difficult to cook timewise and because I never have the ingredients as they can get quite bizarre."

Was wondering what was difficult to cook, and what you considered to be bizarre ingredients. I have to laugh, because a lot of things that I eat, that I think are just standard foods, people here think are bizarre, and exotic ingredients. .

    rice and bread
the radical surgery I had last year really did a number on me for swallowing certain things. Unless I can smother rice with gravy, I don't even try. The little bits get stuck everywhere in my mouth. I can fish them out as snacks for days after. Bread is simply the hardest thing in the world to moisturize and swallow. I don't miss the rice. I do miss the bread.

    Bread oh sweet Bread !!!
Like you Longtermsurvivor, I love bread and cannot eat it without dipping in gravy or swallowing a gallon of milk with the bread. I used to eat a loaf of sour dough a week and now I can only stare at it and wish it could go down easy !!
I am getting better with saliva, I'm about 70% now is my guess. I love pizza and that is a no-no also, to much dough. Not sure why I wrote this other than to say I'm sorry that you can't do bread either. I know your pain as a fellow bread lover....

    Same with my girlfriend, she
Same with my girlfriend, she doesn't want to look at meat after the treatment. She only eats veggie and fish. I do hope she can eat some red meat so she can gain back some weight.

    Veggies or Meat
I still don't have a taste for red meat, not that I haven't tried but it has a metallic taste to me, chicken and pork are not so bad...most veggies I have retained the taste of them. I'd like to think in time I do get the taste back for meat, not that I eat it all the time but a nice burger or steak would be nice. I also can't eat anything that is sweet, nasty taste for that as well.

    John 2 or John 3
Makes no difference to me, if I cannot be first than everything else is an also ran. Only kidding. Years ago in my working life some referred to me as JT since I signed my name with my first initials.

I can now pretty much eat anything with the caveat that it is not the same as pre-rads. Had a fresh bagel with cream cheese this morning it was pretty good. Wifey and I still enjoy a smoothie every morning.

You lucky devil. I miss bagels, so much. One of my favorite things to eat once a week, was an everything bagel with Taylor Ham, fried egg, and cheese. I miss that so much! And pizza, I really miss pizza.

    Sweets are a no-no....
My dentist told me today that Sweets (sugar) is the worst thing for a H&N survivor to eat due to the lack of saliva to counteract the sugar in sweets. He gave me a speech on not eating sweets. Told him I had a dozen cookies at Christmas, doh!
I love to eat meat but must eat some that are juicy, not dry. Fresh chicken, steak are easy to eat when washed down with milk.....I'm glad I'm not lactose intolerant !
    Enjoy whatever you eat.....

I've not eaten red meat (well, very little bit of lamb here and there), and I've gained back 30 lbs. (i lost 40) It's not necessary to eat red meat to gain the weight back. It's all about the calories, and a little protein boost is a good idea. If you want to gain, or loose weight, you gotta count calories. I was keeping track and running everything through the My Pyramid Tracker, to make sure I was getting enough calories, and all the nutrients I needed. During treatment and after, when I was trying to heal, I could not believe how many extra calories I needed, just to maintain my weight. I was getting 2200 - 2400 per day, and I am a pretty tiny girl. My body just needed it. Now I should probably only get 1400 - 1600, not sure, I need to re do my numbers, so I know, because I don't really want to gain anymore.
