Another Eric Update
nother update on Eric is in order. Today we received his blood panel back and he is critically low on blood counts. 2.8 is his HBG count. The doctor offered to redo the test for Eric to verify the number as Eric was having a hard time believing the result. The doctor says that though she has never seen the number so low on a patient that was still ambulatory, she believes that his presentation and symptoms match the blood panel readings. His option is to have 4 units of blood infused slowly with lasix, or do nothing. She says that the transfusions could give him better quality for a couple of weeks, but that it could also raise his blood pressure and if he is bleeding internally the increased blood pressure could cause more bleeding. But if the loss of blood is due to bone mets that it could prolong his life a few weeks. He is undecided until the retest comes back. For the most part he sleeps and is very lathargic, but occasionally he pops on and is lucid. Prayers please as we move forward. Hugs to all of you and thank you for the support.

The second test confirmed Eric's low HBG. He has chosen to remain at home. I'm sure they can use extra prayers as they continue this difficult journey.
Thanks for keeping us informed. It is sad to hear Eric is having such a difficult time. Will keep him in our prayers.0 -

I take comfort in knowing Eric is soon to be in his eternal Home. He has assured me that he is ready to go to heaven. Two very special people.
How we will miss you Eric!! Thank you for your encouragement even in your own suffering.
Praying an easy transition from this life to your heavenly Home.
Praying for Michelle, may God's strength sustain her and His love comfort her during this time.
And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be NO MORE DEATH,neither sorrow, nor crying, NEITHER SHALL THERE BE ANY MORE PAIN: for the former things are passed away.0 -

When I first found this board (Thank GOD!) I posted that I almost felt guilty about “only” being Stage 1, after reading stories like Lee’s and Eric’s and so many others. Eric was so supportive and caring, and said he was relieved to hear that I was diagnosed so early. He had Stage IVb and he was relieved for me! And then he went on to somewhat chide me to “DO NOT FEEL ANY GUILT” (in his famous all caps :-) ). Eric was the first one on this board to make me realize that we’re all in this together, regardless of the Stage of our disease, and I was so moved that someone in his position could have the emotional time and strength to reach out to me to comfort me.
All I can say to Eric and Michelle now is Thank You for your love and support. I don’t pray often, but I am praying now for Eric to have as smooth and painless a transition as is possible. I hope you know we all love you and are hoping you are at peace with what’s happening at this stage. I don’t know that I’d have the strength of character and compassion that you have demonstrated to and shared with us all over the past several months. May God bless you and Michelle, and welcome you to His breast in His kingdom.

New news from Michelle
Update for today: I was able to get Eric up and pretty lucid for the last couple of hours. He wanted to talk deeply about his options with the blood transfusions. We discussed everything the doctor had to share yesterday and he said that he decided to stay home last night because he felt overwhelmed with the results of the tests. After having some much needed rest and time to reflect and discuss the options, he would like to "try" the transfusions with the knowing that if things don't go as he would want them to, he can cry "uncle" at any point and just return home. I support his decision and ask that all would focus their energy and prayers towards a possitive outcome for the transfusions. Though he has decided to move forward with the transfusions, he wishes to wait until the morning to check in at the care center. So, we have time to pray and energize for this coming event. Thank you to all of you for your love and support as we move forward. Eric sends his love and appreciation for all the support!0 -
