To the New year!!!!
In Hindsight, this devil entered my life at a time when I found myself suffering from
an overall lack of appreciation for the truly important things. I watched life from a distance because I truly believed that most people were evil and if I just waited long enough we would just blow ourselves to kingdom come. And... life just didn't have any true meaning for me. Working to come up with enough money just to survive, coming home, cooking dinner, sleeping, maybe spending a day or two here and there with my grandbaby , watching my kids go through the same struggles??? Over and over again, changing little, making no difference in the world...
But.... suddenly I am slapped stupid by something I didn't see coming CANCER............. Now I can honestly say with NO DOUBT at all and regardless of how any other person on the planet feels about it that I understand now and am positive that I am glad it showed up when it did. No matter what happens to me from here on out I have learned the lessons it was meant to teach me. Life is a gift..... All of it and its a matter of perspective on how we each choose to live with this gift....
I have found that I am more peaceful, patient and tolerant of others. My relationships have improved because I take the time to stop and listen, to hear exactly what is being said, to truly understand those I love and love them more for it. The things that stressed me out in the past no longer do so because I know now that in the end none of it really matters. All the things we have are just that, things.Being nice to people even if they are not nice to me is my gift to them. Helping others is now something I go out of my way to do and expect nothing in return except maybe friendship. If this devil decides to be my lifelong nemisis then it will take me as a far better person than when it arrived. If nothing else I hope that all of you can find some peace with this demon and let the light of our hope, the grace of our god and the love of our friends and family shine down on each of our paths on this earth so that we can all be together someday in paradise...
With Much Love and hope to all my old and new friends......
Kat

Wish for a new yearcww71964 said:happy new year
Wishing all a happy, healthy, and blessed 2012!
My wish for a new year is that we can all celebrate more birthdays and more anniverserys. This coming year will mark my 69th birthday and 10th Anniversery as a survivor. Like each of the newcomers I went thru the shock of being told I had Kidney Cancer, that I would have major abdominal surgery and that the surgery and recovery were anything but fun. Hopefully with a positive attitude (it sure was not positive for me in the begining) I can help those that follow me and I can do my part to make this a better world for my family and all of you.

Well said Iceman 9not sure of your real name). We all need to stay positive as this can be treated!!! You are living proof (10 years).
As for you Kat. We are all here for you in one way or the other. I myself have had gone through this and are an 10 month veteran. Keep positive and listen to your doctors but more importantly your body. It will tell you many things before anyone else.

My father and grandfather were in the retail ice business. Hence my name, Icemantoo. As admitted before my real name is Garry with 2 rr's. Either Garry, Iceman or Icemantoo will do for my name.
If you google Icemantoo you will find out it is some guy who writes on the Cancer Discussion boards.0 -

Thanks for the bio. Garry - I've often wondered where your thread-name came from. It's such a fascinating explanation for "iceman" and I wouldn't have guessed the origin in a thousand years!
Kat, I can't tell you how grateful I am for your biographical message. It is one of the most poetic, moving and inspirational pieces of writing I've read in quite a while. As an example of finding the good in any situation it's outstanding. The most touching sentence of all makes a great manifesto statement and I intend to adopt it as my New Year Resolution:
"If this devil decides to be my lifelong nemisis then it will take me as a far better person than when it arrived."

How ones perspective changes. Despite adversity, you've refocused your priorities. Thats what we do here. We progress. That is why we are on this board and not the, "Oh Crap, my life sucks " board. Keep up your spirit. Never hesitate to seek encouragement and support. And Happy New Year!0 -

Thank you
Dear Texas:
Thank you so much for the kind words, I was just reviewing my personal feelings from the past year and realized that I did in fact change a lot. For the better I hope. Some of that was due to the people here and I just wanted to make sure that I told everyone that.
Prayers each night for all and I wish you a very Happy New Year.....0 -
