I'm sorry also that I am too late to send Christmas wishes to all. Maybe not too late for some. It is 26th here, now in Australia. I'm sure it is still 25th in some places.

I'm new to this site and my mom completed 6 months of chemo for Stage 3B colon cancer 4 1/2 months ago & 2 weeks ago we found out that the cancer has now showed up in her extra peritoneum. I'm just wondering what to expect. Did your husband have surgery before starting chemo again? What chemo drugs was he given?

Secondary Peritoneum Cancer
Hi: I also have secondary mets to the peritoneum from gallbladder cancer. I had the gallbladder, its tumour, and part of the liver removed during surgery in April 2010. I then did 12 treatments of cisplatin + gemcitibine (standard gallbladder cancer chemo). That apparently didn't work all that well for the peritoneum. I then did 12 treatments of folfoxfiri (oxaliplatin + irenotecan + 5FU pump + leucovin) which can be a standard treatment for colon cancer - another is Folfox and another is folfiri, i.e. with oxaliplatin and no irenotecan or with irenotecan and no oxaliplatin). This treatment did seem to stabilize growth and spread of the peritoneum nodules (I have 5 or 6). They are trying to get peritoneal stripping surgery for me followed by the HIPEC procedure but in Canada it is only done in a very few places and they are very fussy whom they operate on as these are tough procedures.

I have been following your posts and find them to be quite helpful. I am from the Caribbean and my mom was also diagnosed with gall bladder cancer with mets to the peritoneum. We are not too sure of the liver involvement and are awaiting the results of a CT scan. Can you please tell me where in Canada you are receiving treatment? Our doctor has prescribed oxaliplatin and gemcitabine chemotherapy but I am very interested in knowing more about the FOLFOX/ FOLFOXFIRI that you have mentioned. Please advise as soon as you can. Thanks.

I am very worried and upset. my boyfriend is only 30 and i want him to have a long healthy life. Can someone please share similar stories . Is this type of cancer curable? Secondary Peritoneal Cancer from Gallbladder Cancer
Hi MM: I receive treatment at the London Regional Cancer Centre in London, Ontario. My first chemo regime was cisplatin + gemcitibine. I had 12 treatments - didn't really do much except perhaps stabilize the peritoneum mets. After that, I had 14 treatments of folfirinox. Folfirinox is sort of an offshoot of folfox which is given to people with colon cancer or pancreatic cancer. As I don't have those cancers, I had to pay for the folfirinox. Folfirinox consists of: oxaliplatin + irenotescan + 5FU pump for 42 hrs + leucovin. I had it by IV (through a PICC line) every 2 weeks with the 3rd week off. It is quite a nasty chemo treatment with all sorts of side effects like neuropathy, cold intolerance, diarrhea, joint pain. I had to have Neulasta injections every 3 weeks to up my white blood cell count. Folfirinox had not been tried on gallbladder cancer mets before as far as I know. It did work - even on the liver met. But unfortunately I ended up with a perforated bowel in May and had 3 months in hospital. The chemo cocktail is very strong and I think just eroded my bowel lining.
