Good Afternoon beautiful ladies and of course our wonderful men...

I like to start off by saying that I have a disc bulge in my lower back and I also have endometriosis...with that said its been 7 weeks since my last chemo and for the past couple of weeks I been getting these lower back pain that at times radiates to my hip and legs.. I keep telling myself it’s probably a mixture of chemo, disc bulge and endometriosis since my body is trying to adjust. However, when I told my doctor this he said he doesn’t think I have bone cancer but let see if I still have it when I come back if so he would like to do a scan. Of course when you say cancer and the same sentence as” let do a scan” I get to think the worst... I was just wondering if you ladies ever experience this at all or like to get you input...

Take Care & God Bless
Eva

I had back pain Eva and my oncologist ordered a bone scan for me immediately to rule out bone cancer. Thankfully, it wasn't cancer.

If I were you, I would get the bone scan as soon as possible to rule out cancer for you so you can have peace of mind. And hopefully, if it does show something else, it can be taken care of easily. But, I wouldn't wait.

Good luck and keep us updated,

Coincidentally, Eva, I started with back pain last week
I am 2 years out from diagnosis and a year out from treatment. Last week, one of my vertebra in my mid-back started hurting--especially when I touch it or sat back against a hard chair. It really felt like surface soft tissue, but sometimes it felt like the bone hurting. Anyway, as happens now with any ache or pain, it freaked me out a little. I tried to stay calm. My oncologist has a 2-week rule--anything that is out of the ordinary or hurts/aches for 2 weeks--I'm to call her. That way, I don't come in for every little ache and pain. Well, it's been a week and my back is feeling much better. I don't know if I pulled something, strained a disc or whatever. It is still tender, but much, much better. If it gets bad again, I will call her.

I hope you get this figured out, but try not to panic. I think it's only natural though for us to worry about these things more now.

    Keep up posted.

We all know how every pain
We all know how every pain and ache throws our mind into wondering if our cancer is back. I wish it wasn't that way, but, it is.

Try to stay calm, but, please let your oncologist know how this worries you. I hope he orders a bone scan and that you get the best results.

    I agree about
I agree about aches and pains.I would feel the same way.I haven't had any till this week. But I knew after getting a new dog and walking him I was exercing a bit more.It took a few days and some hard times getting out of bed but feel better now. Yes be sure and see your doctor and gets tests if it continues but it doesn't take much for back pain to start.I also get back for when I get a kidney/bladder infection.

Wishing you the best and hope you back problem subsides soon.

    Scans
I'm an 11 year Survivor and everytime I have a Medical problem, the MD says,"Do to your history of BC,lets do an MRI or CAT Scan to make sure nothing else is going on.I immediately go into panic mode until I get the results. I guess it's better to check then not to catch something that is brewing! Take a deep breath, check it out, and then you can relax knowing it isn't anything to worry about! HUGS!!! Cathy

I go in panic mode too and always think it is the cancer back. I am praying your pain will totally go away and you won't even need further testing. If you do get a bone scan, best of luck to you!

Do not wait too long with
Do not wait too long with this. I goofed around with back pain for a couple of years until it got to the point where the nerve would pinch after just 15 min of standing or walking. It was crippling (and I am not exaggerating).

Of course, I had always heard the horror stories about back surgery, so I didn't see a competent neurosurgeon until I was really bad. The neurosurgeon told Danny and me that surgery was my only option. I had the surgery and I am almost completely fixed. I can walk all day long and it is an absolute joy. My only residual is some mild numbness in my right leg. BTW, my doc said that I might not even have the numbness (=permanent nerve damage) if I hadn't waited so long.

Anyway, with our cancer history, it is always best to have someone check it out. And if your oncologist wants to send you to a neurosurgeon, make sure you see a spine specialist.

"When Should I See a Doctor for (Back)Pain?

In most cases, it is not necessary to see a doctor for back pain because pain usually goes away with or without treatment. However, a trip to the doctor is probably a good idea if you have numbness or tingling, if your pain is severe and doesn’t improve with medications and rest, or if you have pain after a fall or an injury. It is also important to see your doctor if you have pain along with any of the following problems: trouble urinating; weakness, pain, or numbness in your legs; fever; or unintentional weight loss. Such symptoms could signal a serious problem that requires treatment soon."

I always developed neck and back pain after treatment
It took a while to find out what was going on in my neck and back. After chemo and right at the start of radiation my neck hurt so bad that I was afraid to drive. My dR. did a pet scan, everything was fine except my throast was inflamed, he wanted to know if it hurt, no not at all, but my neck did. He said that had nothing to with it so I had to have that tube thing down my throat, all the while knowing it wasn't that. He sent me to a pain Dr. who did MRI and found I had Bulding Discs. The pain Dr. suspectded that because the pain went all the way down my arm. I now get a epidural Shot every 3 or 4 months, it is under control. I think it is strange we all have back issues. I am hopig and praying yours comes out the same. Who would have thought we are so happy to have disc issues.

Eva, it could very well be
Eva, it could very well be your disc causing the pain. I have 2 herniated discs that are pinching my sciatic nerve causing pain to radiate down my hip into my leg. If for some reason the disc has swollen it could be doing the same thing. When you find out that it isn't cancer please go to a pain doctor. You can get an epidural in that disc which will help stop the pain. I never knew this and suffered for 6 years before some-one told me about that kind of thing. I will be praying it is "only" that even though it is very painful. Let us know what happens.

    Ruptured Disk
Hi Epark, I had this same problem a few months back. I tried not to think it was cancer right away, but it was in the back of my mind. Mine was a ruptured disk and I had surgery in early October. I had tried physical therapy, traction, etc and finally talked the dr. into an MRI.

I'd push for a bone scan or if it's bad enough, the MRI for the peace of mind. I was actually relieved it was a ruptured disk!

    Back pain doesn't have to
Back pain doesn't have to mean cancer and as you can see, many of us have had it. It can be from something simple like moving or picking up something wrong to arthritis to many more non cancer things. But, if it continues or gets worse, do get a bone scan.
