Jim goes for a lumbar puncture today at 1PM then i observe him for aa week to see if he shows improvement in confusion and walking. If it does then they will put in a shunt to keep the fluid from building up. He will be in out patient for 8 hours for observation.
Ugh! Hewill probably sleep and I will probably get a numb behind :)

Please pray this works so he can have some quality of life.

Blessings to all.

Debbie

Best wishes for this to work
I really think it will. BTW, I've had a few LP's. Sounds bad, but they are not bad at all. Certainly not bad compared to all the rest we have to go through:)

    Thanks Pat
We just arrived home from hospital and all went well except for his PEG area started to bleed because they had him on his stomach the whole time. He has been sleeping since we arrived home so I guess I will have to see if there is a change tomorrow. BTW was your LP for fluid build up? Did it help?

No it was not for fluid
I have a very complicated medical history. One was for a several year long paralysis problem with my legs. Sigh, suffice it to say I recovered from that one. The other was for an anesthetic for some surgery. Nothing to do with my cancers, or treatment thereof.

Sounds like he's better sleeping right now. Have a good night.

    all went well but....
The lumbar puncture went well but the doctor had Jim on his stomach during the procedure which caused him some pain and the area around the tube to bleed. Everything I read said they did it with the patient sitting up and bending forward or on their side in fetal position so I didn't tell them not to put on his stomach. Well this morning he woke up and the balloon cap was laying in the bed he turned over and the tube was out. Spent all day in the emergency room. The ER doctor was having a hard time getting the replacement in because the end of the tube was a little larger than the hole in the stomach. He finally found a long sterile rod to put inside to stiffen it and it wnet in. What a trial. The doctor kept saying Jim was a strong man. I told him after the treatment anything else was a cake walk for him.

The lumbar puncture seemed to help some but is already starting to fade. We see the neuro surgeon Friday to discuss the surgery for the shunt.

Eeek- yikes Deb. I have to
Eeek- yikes Deb. I have to say, I was always nervous about my tube coming out or something. A couple times when I was hooked up to the pump at night and half asleep and got up in the middle of the night, I about ripped it out.

I guess it's good news that the lumbar worked, but sorry it didn't last longer.
