surgery but no chemo

in Ovarian Cancer #1
Hi Everyone,

I just saw this wonderful community and decided I would like to share my story. At 15 I was diagnosed with stage 1 ovarian cancer, I had a tumour on my right ovary, and my first surgery was to remove only the tumour because the doctors didn't think it was severe. A month later I found out that some of the tumour cells remained on my ovary and could spread to the rest of my body so I had to have surgery again to remove it. I was blessed and lucky enough not to have to go through chemo. I know that my story is not as scary or important as some other cases, but I just wanted to know if anyone had the same situation and if the cancer came back. I'm worried that it will come back someday to my other ovary...any advice is welcome and appreciated!

    and I am so sorry you have to deal with at such a young age. If you don't have to have chemo..you are very lucky. I think you will have to be monitored by you gyn/onc very closely for the first year. Pet scans and a blood test called ca-125. We have several young girls on this site but I think you are the youngest. Feel free to ask anything, we will be glad to help......val

    I am so sorry you had to deal with all that at such a young age. How old are you now? I was stage 1 but I had surgery and the chemo. Everyone is different and of course we all hope that it does not return. Best wishes for you.     Thank you for the advice! I am 18 years old now. I still have routine check-ups and I get really stressed before each one. At first I had them every month but now I'm down to every 6 months. I'm sorry to hear that you had to go through chemo. How long has it been since you were diagnosed? Did it ever come back?

    Different kinds of ovarian cancer
    Cristina: thanks for sharing your story. There are at least 13 different kinds of ovarian cancer. The kind of cancer you had was probably the type that is curable. I'm glad your cancer was caught early. You should do very well.

    Your story is just as important as everyone else's. I'm so sorry you had to deal with this as a young teen but am glad that it was caught early. I don't blame you for feeling nervous and worried about the cancer coming back. I have that same worry. I was diagnosed as stage 2b in September 2010. I had surgery in October 2010 and finished my six rounds of chemo in March of this year and have been NED (no evidence of disease) since then but still find myself wondering if the cancer will come back. I try to focus my thoughts on how lucky I am to be NED and to enjoy each day. Wishing you the best!

    I'm glad to hear you have been NED and hope it continues forever. It's been 3 years since my surgery, but both my grandmothers have/had cancer as well. One of my grandmothers passed away with breast cancer, and my other one is going through chemo right now. The treatments are working well, but I can't help but worry. I sometimes feel helpless and don't know how I can support her more. Any advice? Thank you to all of you for the wonderful comments. I wish all of you the best of health!

    I'm glad you shared your story !
    I am 58 years old with four grandchildren and I have a tough time dealing with this cancer,you have alot on your plate with your grandmothers being sick and your own cancer! It sounds like you should be completly cured but always pay attention to any changes in your body.
    Your grandmother is lucky to have you and I know just knowing my grandaughters love me is all I need and it sounds like you have that covered already !
