perifosine-clinical trial at OSU

in Colorectal Cancer #1
Hi, My husband is still undergoing treatment, (he had four months off after getting ablation to his liver in June) but has exhausted many of the therapies. He started folfox again but had an allergic reaction on his third treatment of his second cycle. I'm not sure what his doctor will put him on next. One option is a clinical trial at OSU called perifosine. It is a pill taken with xeloda. I'll let you know how it goes if he chooses the clinical trial. All is well. He is feeling good and looking great. That's what happens when you are off treatment for awhile.
Thanks to all of you that made this journey easier for us when Chris was first diagosed back in March of 09.

    Nice to see you posting. This cancer journey sure has its ups and down. My George was also diagnosed March 09. I'm not familiar with the clinical trial called perifosine. I was reading about a new drug Regorafenib or BAY-73-4506 that they are trying to fast track through the FDA for colon cancer due to the good results they achieved in clinical trials. Don't know if it is the same thing you are talking about. I read about it I believe it was on the Colon Cancer Alliance site. It is an oral chemo.

    to see you.i have never heard of that treatment but i hope it works for him.has there been any new growth of tumors for him since he has been off chemo? just wondering,my tumors grew and spread while i was off chemo for 3 months due to having liver surgery.best of luck and Godbless...johnnybegood

    While he has been off he had
    While he has been off he had no known new growth but an increase of a mm in a couple of his mets in his lung and some questionable growth to his spots he had ablated in his liver, but it could be the ablation making its mark as well. We wouldn't know for sure unless he got a PET. However his CEA was holding steady around 3-5 while on chemo (irrinotecan, erbitux and avastin) since he was off for four months it really went up. We are just blessed for all we have. It's great to feel good and have no side effects with the cancer other than chemo, procedures, surgeries etc.
    It is nice to hear from both of you. Tina, I think you recommended a webinar and I found it very informative. Thanks for the other info on the trial drug-I know there are a lot of them. So far he qualifies for a phase 3, but he may get the placebo+ xeloda instead of the drug. I don't know if that is how it is with all phase 3 trials?
