first pleural effuusion

in Lung Cancer #1
My wife just had 1.5 liters drained off in her first pleural effusion....she's a new woman.

She's been dx 14 months ago.... don't know what this means. Some sites say this is another nail.... and a big one. Others say... " aw... don't worry bout it."

Guess we will get answrs to orrow.

I wzs not there for her scans today not expecting news. Then when they gae her te bad news of thhe effusion and embolism, she held eself togethet till the car. I called and think I have made it crystal clear that barring a 911 med emergency.... I am to be called wit bad news. I will tell er. I know her scheduler, her thoughts, and thought processes.... and in days of technology, no time would have been lost teling me first. My wife decided that my insciistance is not enough, that to tomorrrow, the staf will hear to call me first. I get it, and ask questions and break it down to ways she can u derstand... that's what couples do.

    NayPaul, I had pleural infussion 1.5 liters drained from around left lung a little over 2 years ago, as long as they find no cancer cells in fluid no big deal, fliud has not returned, did have a little around my heart but DR said wasn't enough to drain and next scan the fluid was gone.     I am sorry your wife had to go through that. From what Dan is saying its sounds like she will be okay, like he is. I have a friend on the anal cancer board who had a pleural inussion and it had cancer cells. She has been treated for it with chemo/radiation, so I know its treatable if theres cancer there. I bet it was such a relief to get that out of her, and like Dan said I hope it never comes back. Lori

    Sorry your wife had such a bad experience but I'm praying that draining her lung will change everything around for the good for her.

    NayPaul, So sorry to hear that your wife had to experience this without you. Geesh! You would think the Drs. know you both by now and would not discuss this without you there. Yes, with modern technology, there is no excuse. I am glad that she has gotten relief though. I too have a friend that had to have a pleural effusion about a year ago. No problems since. Positive thoughts to you and your wife! Stay strong and know you both are in my prayers. Cheryl

    She does seem better...turns out she also has pneumonia. I have to start giving her shots for blood clots. The crizotinbquit working as well. Her legs swelled last night andd she has trouble swallowing. But the antibiotics are kicking in and tonight she seems much better. No cancer cells in the fluid as dan suggested...so im hopeful it will not come back for a while.

    I am glad your wife is better, and theres no cancer cells. Hopefully, now the pneumonia will start healing since all the fluid is gone. I wish you and your wife well. Lori
