Anyone ever needed calcium? What's the scoop?

My husband does have breast cancer, mets to all of the bones. What's the scoop on the calcium? We landed in the hospital, but nothing has really changed. Not because of the calcium. We were told it was inflammatory bowels. Just a little. He was in excruciating pain. Found out he needed some calcium. He has been on chemo for over 2 years with no break. The mets in his bone are attacking the calcium. Has this happened before?

    Calcium is just one of the
    Calcium is just one of the vitamins/minerals that are depleted from the body by chemo and the after effects of it. That's hy we need to be on Calcium and vit. D. For me, since chemo, potassium is a problem to keep levels in the normal range without taking mega doses of it daily.

    My breast specialist put me
    My breast specialist put me on calcium and vitamin D (Citrical +D)since being diagnosed as menopausal. So yes.. I can imagine all the harsh chemo drugs are doing a number on our joints and bones. Jackie I've been following your story with your husband. My love and prayers go out to you for added strength. The care-giver role is never an easy one and my heart aches for your husband. Let him know his pink sisters are here in support.

    Yes, I eat tums and calcium pills. It really helps with the bone cramping. I was on chemo for 9months straight, took a 2 month break, now starting again on the 30th. Tums really helped though!

    Has the doctor also put him on fosamax or some other bone builder? Sometimes that stops the mets from taking up as much room in the bones. Definately talk to the nurses or doctors about what kind of calcium to take. Some kinds are easier to absorb and may give results faster than others.
