Update on Rickie Prayers please
I haven't posted lately as we had been busy with going to radiation for 10 days. We finished that a week ago Wednesday, and Rickie was regaining the use of his right leg. He has been getting stronger and was actually able to eat a little better than usual. we were also running the feeding tube during the night which helped to give him some energy. We were going in for hydration almost every day last week, which also seemed to help. On Monday of this week when I disconnected him from the feeding pump, bright red blood started coming out of the tube. He dido not want to go to the ER for fear he would never come home, so we waited for the doctor's office to open and went in there. The doctor basically said that we should just keep in eye on it for signs of internal bleeding. He also asked us when we were going back to Houston, and w e told him we were waiting for results of the brain radiation to see how things were going. He told us he did not feel Rickie was strong enough to undergo anymore treatments. He suggested we increase the dilaudid and administer it around the clock to help with his back pain. Rickie's ankles have also been swelling and his blood pressure was low. We saw no other signs of bleeding, however all day yesterday his pressure was very low and his pulse was high. Last night he became incoherent, mixing up syllable when he was trying to tell me things. About one thirty in the morning he got up to got to the restroom and his legs buckled under him. He asked me to call an ambulance and we ended up in the ER. During that time he started having a GI hemorrhage. He was started on blood transfusions and when he became more incoherent and they gave him ativan. Our son is here with me and our daughters are on their way. We spoke to the doctor about hospice and hopefully if they can stabilize him, we will go home to hospice care soon. Rickie is a fighter and has not wanted to give up but perhaps the time has come. Please keep us in your prayers as we start the final road of this journey.

I know you must be very fearful, and I'll pray not only for Rickie to stabilize but for you to be able to maintain your tremendous strength. Kim
This is certainly a set back and I know you are very down right now. Rickie has put up the good fight and he has to be getting tired. Know that you, Rickie and your families will be in my thoughts and prayers as you complete the journey EC started you on. All of us with this disease are on the same journey and thru this site, we travel it together. Love and prayers, Sam0 -
So sorry
Hi Cheryl,
I am so sorry. I posted earlier that I was concerned because we hadn't heard from you in awhile and now our worst fears have been realized. As someone who's recently been through exactly what you're dealing with, I have one piece of advice; Have a wonderful albeit tearful heart to heart conversation with Ricky and with your kids. Then give him all the drugs allowed to keep him comfortable and peaceful until the end. I thought it was best that we not drug Greg up too much so we could still communicate. That was a mistake. He became so combative and had such terrible hallucinations that I couldn't handle him alone at home. I needed help day and night for the duration but after we got him on a strict and regular regimin of atavan, halidrol and oxycodone, he passed away very peacefully. Please know that you are all in my prayers - I know that's probably not the most comforting words to hear right now, but it's all I have.
Hugs to you

I am so sorry for what you are going through. Sadly, it sounds almost like a mirror image of what Lee went through, only a few weeks ago. You must be so terrified. I am so glad your children are going to come visit. They will be a great help and comfort to you, and Rickie. You cannot do this on your own, allow all of your friends and loved ones to help you and support you.
I hope and pray that the transfusions work for Rickie. I have no words, I am so sorry and praying for you Cheryl.

So Sorry, Cheryl.....
There aren't words enough to express my sorrow at your words.
I pray for peace and strength for you and your family. Peace and no pain for Rickie.
I'm sure you will find much comfort in hospice. I pray the transfusions help and Rickie is able to return to the comfort and love of HOME.
Please know that we are here for you - when you need us.
Love and hugs,

Cheryl,
My thoughts and
Cheryl,
My thoughts and prayers and with you and Rickie as you face this new step in the EC battle. It was such a blessing when we called in hospice for my dad. And it helped him and made a world of difference to my mom --- the comfort and support they gave us was amazing. We called them our angels here on earth.
I know the love you both share and the love of your family. Lean on each other and treasure these days.
Hugs and love,
