Sir Spheres anyone?

Hello all,
We are running down our list of options and have come to sir spheres. Jim decided to stop chemo in August. The tumors are growing on his liver so we have to do "something." We are trying protocel and paw paw after the sir spheres. Would sure appreciate any input on these things if any of you are familiar. I don't have the report yet on the size of his tumors and he has several small scattered lesions on his lungs now too. He feels so good now since he has been off the chemo he just doesn't want it anymore.

    Only a few people on the board have had this procedure. For some reason I don't think it is widely used for colorectal mets. Christy (dont' remember her sign in name) had the procedure, it was either SirSpheres or Theraspheres, quite successfully which led to her liver resection. She has not posted in quite a while but she is the only one I know of on this board that had success with the procedure. If I can find her sign-in name I will pm it to you and maybe she is lurking and if you send her a pm she will see it may be of some help.

    Congrats on Randy's upcoming treatment with "little magic beads." I was fortunate to have the procedure five years ago. I was in a very grave situation with innumerable liver mets and no more chemo treatments available. The procedure was easy for me, with a few days of fatigue and some mild cramping; followed by a wait for results. I had excellent response and was able to resume chemo and other targeted treatments to keep other tumors in check.

    I'm here--yes lurking> haha
    I did have the Theraspheres, and a wonderful outcome from it. I was diagnosed in July of 2009, had colon surgery then, told not operable on liver. I had the spheres in January of 2010, then was operaable in April of 2010. I have had clean scans since then. Please send me a message if you would like to talk about it or need more info from me.

    Hubby had Sir spheres
    Hi April,

    My Hubby had the Sir spheres mid Sept at MD Anderson. We just the follow up scans done about a week ago and the tumor growth has stopped. When he did it they told him that in the first set of scans (6 wks after procedure) the best he could hope for was no growth. If it was going to shrink the tumors it would take longer to show up. We redo scans the week after Christmas.

    He didn't have any problems with the procedure itself but he had problems with fatigue for a couple of weeks after it. So tell him to be prepared to do nothing for a while. That was really the only side effect he experienced. His was done as an outpatient.

    Randy was dx 12-14-09 with stage IV. They removed it all from his colon but he has too many mets in his liver for a resection, but it has not spread beyond the liver.

    We were told by our local Dr and at Vanderbilt there's was nothing they could do so we were just glad when we got to Houston they had something to try.

    I never had to have it. Always been resectable. I did go to the Colon Cancer Alliance national convention 4 years ago and there was an intervention radiologist there talking highly of it. Good luck.

    Did you talk to Loyola about Sir Spheres? I consulted with a RAdiologist there - a greek name, can't remember. Call me if you want to discuss
