Chiropractic care and cancer
It has been 4 months since my colon removal(stage2,Lynch syndrome positive) and I still have no energy at all. It is very hard for me to keep any kind of nutrients in my body. I am taking additional sublingal supplements also. A friend of mine suggested I see a licensed Chiroprator. So I had my consult with the Dr. today. After x-rays and other forms of modern technology tests...she said "no wonder I was in alot of pain". My spine was out of line alot and she wanted me to set up appointments for the next year. I guess I am alittle cautious because I don't need another costly expense these days, but I am willing to try anything to get some relief and a some what fair quality of life. Do any of you see a chiropractor and have you had good results.

Run away!
A year? Really?
There is no evidence that subluxation exists anywhere other than a chiropractic school, only a little evidence that chiropractic can help with back pain, and a lot of evidence that they can do real harm if they do adjustments on the neck.
IMHO, your chiropractor wants you to make their car payment for them.0 -
I see a chiropractor and it
I see a chiropractor and it has helped me out a lot. Sometimes you need to go a few times to start with, but after that just as needed. I think sometimes they try to push going more than a person needs too. But I was in so much pain I could barely reach back to comb my hair, a few time with them and it was like night and day. Also I know after my colon surgery from being in a hospital bed my back was bad, not to mention what happens to your stomach muscles. I also recommend massages, they can work out the knots in your back and help with relaxing. Good luck to you, I hope you feel better.0 -
i am seeing a chiropractor tomorrow
he is a friend now and gives me lots of support with regard natural therapies.
i have not had manipluations done by him.
the spine being out of alignment is not good.
my yoga teacher did some gentle manipulations of my back yesterday.
i left the 2 hour session feeling great and moving more freely.
maybe get a second opinion. maybe your problems will take a year to fix.
i hope its faster for you though.
i used to have chronic lower back pain not anymore.
get the root of your problem, mine was weight and poor posture.

if the chiro needs a new car its his business, we all need cars to live in our cities.
if the chiro is good and he can help you then it makes sense to get your problems fixed.
whats better a gp dishing out pills compromising your liver or physical manipulations.
now i have not been physically manipulated by a chiro, but certainly educated.
just google pubmed
in pubmed put chiropractic
informed consent means being aware of research and opinions.
i have faith in my opinions they are backed up by science and research and experience.

Abstract
BACKGROUND CONTEXT:
Acute back pain and sciatica are major sources of disability. Many medical interventions are available, including manipulations, with conflicting results.
CONCLUSIONS:
Active manipulations have more effect than simulated manipulations on pain relief for acute back pain and sciatica with disc protrusion.0 -
I say give it a try....
Several months after colon resection DH had so much pain in his back he could hardly walk. He chose chiropractic care and did a happy dance afterwards. His spine was way out of alignment and it took about 6 visits to get it back. It was very awkward because he could not lay on his stomach, but the Dr manipulated him sitting up.
I know from experience that Chiropractors will try to make their mortgage AND car payments off you, but you have to be in charge of how much treatment you need. When you feel better, cancel your next appointment. You can always schedule another one. If you don't start feeling something after about 3 appointments, then find another Dr.
Good luck, Tessa.

Be wary
What I see as suspect here is that the "Doc" seems to think that you need a year of appointments! I would have to question if she can really do anything good for you long term if it is going to take that many appointments.
If your spine is really that bad there might be a cause that should be found before taking any treatments. I think I would get a second opinion from an Osteopath who is actually a licensed Doctor. Chiropractors are not doctors.
I would also suggest you talk with your surgeon about your plans. 4 months is not a long time since surgery. You don't want to mess up the guts while adjusting the bones.
Good luck,

Try a masseuse
I used a masseuse to help me relax as needed. Chiropractors will help relax your back. I like the masseuse because they relaxed my entire body.
Everyone in pain probably has their spine out of alignment trying to compensate for the pain else where.
