doc has put me on celexa for depression and sleepless nights. i was on prozac, then found out it wasn't good with my tamoxifen. next was effexor, which didn't help the sleepless-ness at all! so now we'll try this one, and hope for the best!

    My sister is a psychiatrist
My sister is a psychiatrist and, at one time, she recommended celexa for me for anxiety/depression. I had a weird reaction and could not sleep on it (very vivid dreams that kept me up). But I am a strange bird who reacts to drugs in unusual ways. I am currently on a subtherapeutic dose of lexapro (5 mg/day) which should not work, but it does.

These days, she uses a lot of cymbalta and lexapro. I think because she feels they are "cleaner" drugs with less side effects.

What is important is finding what works for YOU. We are all thousands of different chemical reactions and what works for me, may not work for you. Continue to try different meds. I bet you will find the right one. Also, if it doesn't get better, consider seeking a second opinion--either a sleep specialist or psychiatrist who specializes in tweaking meds (they do have such specialists--usually affiliated with med schools).

thanks for the info! i'm trying to keep an open mind about all of this!
i was on serafem (prozac) until i found out it "diminishes the effectiveness of tamoxifen" on this website - after i'd been on both for three months! talk about panic attacks! now i'm on effexor, but it's keeping me up at night. will start the celexa tomorrow night, so hoping it will work quickly...i'm exhausted!!

I'm on effexor. I was on
I'm on effexor. I was on Zoloft but had to switch because of the Tamoxafin. It's good. I'm happy with it. I really need it with all this cancer stuff to worry about. No weight gain, although I'm not feeling very sexy these days, but that could be from the chemo triggered menopause. Hope this helps.

    Effexor
Ok not only is effexor used for depression but also has some minor effects for Attention Defecit Disorder. People with ADD have the opposite reacton to caffiene and ADD drugs than a non ADD person. It helps them calm down and concentrate.

Talk to your doctor about the time of day you take the Effexor. If taken too late in the day it can hinder sleep. I do not have the extended release as the insurance company will not take it. I take my first dose when I get up in the AM. I try not to take the second dose any closer than 5 hours before I normally go to sleep or it will keep me up. Also perhaps if you are getting the extended release you might want to go to the non extended release. This worked out to be ideal for me.

    I was put on Celexa
I was put on Celexa back in March after I had my Bi Lateral Mastectomy.I just started crying at the drop of a hat. Certain songs on the radio would set me off. That Rascal Flatts song where he sings "I will Stand By You,I will pull you through" would bring me to tears.Reminded me of my husband and what good care he was taking of me.This is my first time on an anti Depressant. My doctor said its safe and raises the serotonin levels in the brain. It took a week or 2 to work, but it did help.About a month ago I started forgetting to take it so I just stopped, thinking I didn't need it anymore. A couple weeks later, I noticed I was feeling blue again. I'm normally a pretty upbeat person, so I went right back on it. Don't know if I'll ever be off it. I haven't noticed any side effects.Good luck to you. I hope it helps.I was also put on Ativan so I could sleep. I was told it was also good for nausea.Maybe you could look into that as well.
