Anal Cancer Foundation
I always try to mention this website to any newbies, but thanks for posting it again. For any of you visiting this site, you may recognize one of the faces on the homepage. That's me, first picture on the left. The Almada siblings have established this foundation in memory of their mother who died from anal cancer in 2010. They are very determined to increase awareness, raise funds for research, and provide resources for anyone who is diagnosed with the disease. I hope everyone will check it out.0 -

When I was asked to submit a picture, I wasn't sure I wanted to do it. However, I think the only way anal cancer will ever get a lot of peoples' attention is by putting faces to it. I don't think I look like some kind of freak or weirdo and I believe it's important for people to see that this disease can happen to anyone. I'm glad you visited the site and found it helpful.0 -

Martha rocks.
The Almada family is working very hard to bring awareness and funds to a much ignored cancer. They are very committed to their cause. I have had the opportunity to see them in action as they are the beneficary of the donations my best friend, Teresa, is raising for her NYC Marathon run this Sunday. She has been so impressed with them. we feel certain the money raised will be used wisely.
She had originally contacted the Farrah Fawcett Foundation last year when she first decided to run the marathon. She was so disappointed in the reception she received from them.
Blessings,

Thanks for sharing that information with all of us. I had the opportunity to speak with Tristan Almada by phone and I am so very impressed with his commitment. He and his sisters are determined to bring more public awareness to this disease, get the medical community on board for earlier detection, and raise funds for research. They are doing all of this in memory of their mother, who died from anal cancer in April 2010. They are also doing this for all of us!
Thank you and Angela for the kind words!0 -

Hi all,
I found this site, from Aurora, who posted the link on the Anal Cancer Yahoo Group, I'm guessing most of you know about: a terrific resource with many many survivors and thrivers of anal cancer : http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/anal-cancer/
I wanted to introduce myself here, and realized that there is no better way, than to point you to the link on the Anal Cancer Foundation Thrivers page, under Resources: that is my face right next to Martha's on the main page: www.analcancerfoundation.org. (hi Martha!)
My story, is on this page: http://www.analcancerfoundation.org/richards-story/
21 + years now NED, and counting.

It's nice to finally know who the handsome man's pic next to mine belongs to! I have read your story on that site and was very inspired. You certainly have endured a lot. Kudos to you for hanging in there and also for sharing your story so that others can be more informed. This cancer is dastardly, but if we put faces to it, people realize that it happens to real people just like themselves. Awareness is key in prevention, detection, better treatment and research. Thank you for introducing yourself and also for the info on the other website, which I do not post on. From one thriver to another, I thank you for helping to raise awareness and I wish you all the very best!0 -
