Acinic Cell Carcinoma

Has anyone had acinic cell carcinoma go to the lung? I had a parotid tumor removed in August 2009. My biopsy and frozen path were both benign, but my final pathology came back malignant. Acinic cell carcinoma was the diagnosis. I had clean margins so I was sent to an ENT at The Emory Clinic in Atlanta. First saw him every 6 weeks, and then every eight weeks. At my year appointment I was still clear, but had orders for a chest X-Ray. My doctor said he wasn't concerned, but standard course of treatment is to check the lungs. He said he has never personally had a case of it going to the lung, but wanted me to follow standard course of treatment. The nurse called me and said the report shows something on my left lung between the 7th and 8th rib. I'm scheduled for a CT scan tomorrow. I am freaking out. The nurse said it could be one of a hundred things and that my doctor is not overly concerned, but wants to be thorough.

The lungs can harbor scary things
Most of which are not cancer. My first post treatment CT scan discovered multiple lung nodules. There are many reasons for anomalies in the lungs. The most common is probably histoplasmosis which is a fungal infection common in some source water and soil. It's bird droppings and bat droppings contaminating soil and water. I don't know about 100 possible causes but last time I checked there were around a dozen innocent ways for strange stuff to show up in the lungs. I have been there and it's very frightening. My Oncoman said the same thing as yours, "He is not concerned". They deal with this stuff everyday and know the patterns and red flags of when to be concerned. So far my guy has been right. Trust your doctor until you know otherwise. Hoping birds are in your future.
