CDC - MSNBC - Recommend Boys for HPV Vaccine
So glad that the subject is getting more and more attention....hopefully people like Michele Bachmann saw it as well, but then again.
CDC - MSNBC - Recommend Boys for HPV Vaccine
And again, a reference that;
An estimated 50 percent to 80 percent of men and women are infected with HPV in their lifestimes, although most clear the infection without developing symptoms or illness, according to the CDC.
"The Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices made the recommendation Tuesday in a unanimous vote. Federal health officials usually adopt what the panel says and asks doctors and patients to follow the recommendations."

It seems like a no brainer
For all of us with head and neck cancer and children. I had my daughter vacinated at 13 before I was diagnosed. I had my son vacinated at 21 after I was diagnosed. We have to remember that relatively speaking this is still a rare cancer compared to breast or prostrate cancer and the public sees it as the "sinners cancer" caused by smoking, drinking, and oral sex.
Education goes a long way in making folks aware. My daughter was walking past the TV the night that debate was taking place at the exact moment Mrs. Bachman made her remark about mental retardation. My daughter just said, "Who's the dumb lady?" opened the fridge, got her snack and just walked away. Education does work.0 -

There is always an intimidation factor involved when we allow the government to require us to receive vaccinations or medicine of any kind, as seen by the debate over vaccinating young ladies for cervical cancer. Still, if there is no debate regarding the helpfulness or harmfulness of the vaccine, I too consider it a matter beyond discussion, except, of course, among those of certain religious persuasions.
Take care,

HPV
I asked yesterday while having my checkup about my cancer as when I started treatment it did show HPV was in my cancer cells. They say my cancer was from smoking....And I was a heavy smoker for 35 years.
My question to my doc was "which came first, the chicken or the egg"? They don't know....not yet anyways. But at the James they check for HPV. I asked why doesn't every place and he said to test for HPV is not cheap. Still. I would sure want to know, wouldn't you? The funny thing is for me having HPV in my cancer made my odds of beating it better. From 60 to 80 per cent!
I know I have an older daughter and no grandkids.....but if I did...they would have the vaccine for sure.
Saw on the Today show the staggering stats of how much head and neck cancer is on the rise....scary stuff.0 -

Hi Joe, I know you weren't one that was diagnosed as HPV derived, and I can certainly agree with you on government required programs.
But at the same time, and I can't remember your age, but back in my day. Vaccination for DPT, polio and smallpox were common and required.
I don't even know if they still vaccinate or not these days.
But, I personally feel and agree with you, that the HPV vaccination overall seems to be a good thing. Especially seeing how many are reportedly affected with HPV or at least exposed.
I haven't really seen out of the 50 - 80% they say are exposed, how many actually have complications derived from HPV.

Son is scheduled
I checked with our insurance company and they will pay for girls, but not boys... what the heck!
John, your MSNBC article notes that $360 for all of the shots, my son's doctor told my wife $615. Oh well, what ever the costs, I don't want my 17 year old son to ever deal with this, so off he goes to getting the shots!
Good information everyone!
