Sorry Susan
Sorry Susan for the bones. I think it it somehow related to Arimidex and Ca uptake. Please see endocrinologist who might give you ideas/suggestions about it. Orally taken Omega-3 oil can be helpful too.

I have osteoporosis on both sides of my family and before I started Chemo (4 A/C and 12 Taxol)in Aug. '09 I was getting close to osteopenia. June '10 a bit closer but not quite there yet. June '11 have Osteoporosis. I've taken Calcium and D for years and have been on Fosamax since June. Also have been on Femara since Jan. '10. I'm of the opinion that it's a combo of genes, Chemo and Femara - not just one or the other.
I see my PA in Dec for 6 mth check up so I'll talk to her about what she thinks of an endocrinologist appt. - she's the one that has to put in for referrals.
Thanks

Susan,
In my opinion you should your doctor sooner than December. It seems that you need something more potent than Fosamax.
I was diagnosed with osteoporosis in March. My mother who is 73 does not have it.
My oncologist send to to endocrinologist who is treating me for it. She proposed to start Zometa injections and currently I am taking Calcitonin Nasal spray, which suppose to promote bone build up.
Please be careful while walking to protect yourself from fractures.

If you aren't already, do add a chewable calcium to help strengthen the bones...but getting old is a wonderful thing....Hugs to you Susan.0 -
Gosh Susan, I am so sorry to
Gosh Susan, I am so sorry to hear your foot has not healed. I cannot imagine it doesn't hurt like crazy~ but I'm glad it is only causing you seemingly minor discomfort.I have no magical medical advice~ just hoping you find what you need to mend, and that your Dr can and will suggest something which speeds the healing process.

Getting Old is not Fun At All
Dear Susan,
What kind of shoes is he recommending? I wear a brace and a patch to help my ankle not to move, plus the cortisone shots. Since I now have to wear two different size shoes, I wear only SAS. They are very good but expensive especially having to buy two pairs.
What about Fosamax, Boniva, Zometa, Aredia or some kind of bisphosphonates to make your bones stronger? Did he mention anything of that kind? What reason did the podiatrist give for your bones not healing? There is always a reason.
If you don't have any satisfaction with his/her answers, how about talking to an orthopedic?
Best,

I've been on Fosamax since late June of this year - right after the latest bone density test showed that I had crossed into osteoporosis. I've been on Calcium and vit. D for years - family history and relatively early natural menopause (44).
As I understood him, they are actually doing better than he thought they might but no where as good as he hoped for. They are tarsals and the breaks are very near the 'toe' end. So not a lot of bone in the area and with the osteoporosis there just isn't much to generate new bone.
He didn't say what shoe but told me that they aren't "ugly" whatever that means. On Nov 10, I have an eye appt. up there so as soon as I'm done with it I'm to stop and he'll give me the script for it then. Not sure where I'll have to go for them but I'm thinking that I won't be going to PT there as he'd just put it in the 'puter for them. He said he'd send me for them so I'm thinking that it'll be to a med. supply place. I'll find out.

I had to go in this morning to have my port flushed so thought I might be able to check in with Jan but she wasn't in today so I talked with her RN while she did the flush and she said she would talk with Jan when she gets in. So will see what she has to say.

Retreat was great - as usual. Sweat was fantastic! I posted about it several days ago under the title "On My Way Here" - that was the theme for this one.chenheart said:Gosh Susan, I am so sorry to

'Everybody' is surprised that foot doesn't hurt with the bones not healed yet but it doesn't. The X-rays don't lie though.

Hi Susan,
My podiatrist had shoes on display to order. My first brace fit with the shoe, but the brace this podiatrist gave me didn't. I had to go out that day to buy a bigger size. I just received a new brace. I thought the design was going to be the same. It wasn't and I have a heck of a time putting the shoe over the brace. I feel like Cinderella's wicked step sister trying to fit the brace in the shoe every morning. It fits, but, doesn't slip on and I waste so much time struggling. I looked at the shoes on display that he had. They weren't bad, there more or less athletic shoes, nothing you would wear to a social.
Guess you will need something stronger than Fosamax. Aromatase inhibitors do a number on bones. When you think how stopping hormones at the adrenal gland something has to give. It's usually the bones and other stuff as well.
Hoping you find a pair of shoes you will like and that will help that poor foot.
Best,

Consult with Endocrinologist
Just got off the phone with my PA and she is putting in for a consult with the Endocrinologist. My care is through VA and the closest VA facility with an Endocrinologist is 600 miles away so she's putting in for him to review my records and get back to her.
