rash under breast that keeps coming back?

Ok....this is like the third time I've had an itching, red rash under my breast. The first time was right after rads and they gave me cipro for it. The last time was about a month or so ago and it was bad. I was given a bacterial antibiotic that cleared it up but gave me an allergic reaction. Well, last night I found myself itching there again and this morning when I looked it seems as if it's coming back again! Has anyone had a persistent bacterial rash come back over and over for no reason? I plan on calling my doctor but just wanted to know if anyone has this weird thing happening? This is really starting to concern me because I can't understand why it keeps coming back. I'm not using anything different. I'm not wearing anything tight. I wash every day. Anyone else?

    Hi Angela,

    Before I had cancer and my reconstruction surgery I was pretty big breasted - a DD cup. As with most big breasted ladies I had a deep fold beneath my breast. It easily got moist or sweaty there. A moist sweaty environment is great for growing yeast, fungus, and bacteria. My ob/gyn said the rashes I would get under there were a YEAST infection. An antibiotic will do nothing for yeast. His solution was keep it as clean and dry as possible at all times. In addition he said to use an over-the-counter product such as Lamasil on the affected area. Seems to have worked for me, so I hope it is of some help to you, also.

    It drove me crazy! I saw 2 different PCP's and a dermatologist. This rash started in 2005 and I finally got it clear in 2010. The only cream that worked was ciclopirox olamine cream .77%. And even that took dedicated use. I was told it was yeast infection but the ciclopirox is for fungal. I keep an eye on the area now that it is healed to make sure I start treatment right away if it should reappear. As soon as you apply the right stuff you will feel relief right away. Good luck!

    I know what you are talking about, but this is different.At first we thought it was a yeast thing or a fungus and tried for months to clear it with yeast meds and fungus meds .Then it got so bad my doc realized it wasn't that and it was a bacterial infection that actually makes me sick: fever, chills, body aches. When the rash isn't there the area looks very shiny and stretched which I read is another symptom of cellulitis. When I had surgery I had it IN my breast and ever since it's been showing up on and under. This is a link explaining it : http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmedhealth/PMH0001858/. I was just wondering if anyone else has this happening to them and what was used to get rid of it once and for all! I am going back to the rads doc monday morning. Hopefully he will give me something that works longer. I'm just hoping I don't need intravenous drugs.

    Hate that you're having to deal with this....as if what you've been through isn't enough.....Has anyone suggested that this should be cultured? Sometimes that's what ot takes to determine exactly what it is and then get the appropriate treatment, ie drugs, ointments, etc....

    Wishing you itch less days.....

    My thoughts exactly - as
    My thoughts exactly - as long as it's been going on a culture would definmately be in order if not already done. Knowing what it is would make it easier to get the right med to deal with it than just of try this or this or that.

    @ nancy and susan that is a great idea!! I wonder why no one has thought of that?! I will suggest it to the doctor tomorrow. Hopefully we will get to the bottom of it. I'm so tired of being sick and complaining! It's like "enough already" I want to get on with my life! I start to feel "normal" and it comes back and makes me sick again and out of commission. My house is a mess and when I finally start to get it back in order I wind up with a fever and back in bed. Thanks for the well wishes too! Fingers crossed that they figure it out~

    @sinee, I think I have tried
    @sinee, I think I have tried every kind of power and cream on the market! I have a whole collection. The thing with this is that it actually gets me sick: fever, chills, fatigue like a cold. I wouldn't mind the rash so much if that's all it was but this is more than that. It's the same feeling I had with my cellulitis.
