Well.... "2bhealed" (Emily) suggested the "Champion" juicer
(Em's the juicing queen!).
I bought one on locally, from a guy's ad on Craigslist, for a
whopping $100. It was like brand new and worked like a charm.
That Champion juicer will get juice out of a brick... really!
For me, as great as it worked, and as easy as it was to clean
(cleaning can be a real PITA with most of the juicers), I personally
couldn't have been happier with the purchase!
But I had recent surgery that left me with a condition known as
"short bowel syndrome", and with my already "high output
Ileostomy", drinking anything was taboo. So I sold the juicer
on Craigslist for a bit more than I paid. I later regretted that
move, since I could have used it once in awhile, instead of daily.
It's a heavy machine, but durable as all hell, and all parts are
readily available and inexpensive.
Yeah.... this is starting to sound like an ad, I know.... but trust
me, any royalties I may or may not receive will go to a great cause.
just sayin'...
Check with "2bhealed" (Emily), or "Scouty" (Lisa). They both
juice anything in sight, and swear by juicing!
Good luck and best of health!

A Nice
Juicy Juicer is the best. I've heard great things about the one mentioned. I have a regular Hamilton Beach one that went for about $70 that I got for free. It does a very good job but I may outlive that one where as the Champion is one you could take with you when you go!0 -

Hi Teri!
You can go to this site and look at their comparison chart. Depending on how much you want to invest makes a difference. If money is no object then get the best you can if you think you will do this for the long haul. I've had my Champion for over 10 years -- it's a workhorse! Before that I had a JuiceMan -- not the kind you can get at Target but bought directly from them. That was over 20 years ago.
Comparing the two, I much prefer the Champion for 3 reasons:
1) easier to clean
2) more output per produce--and juicing organic veggies can add up
3) less enzyme loss due to heat produced from the juicing--centrifugal juicers like the JuiceMan and LaLanne (sp?) create more heat so they kill off more enzymes.
Enzymes are the key healer in juicing.
You can also go to www.mercola.com and see what he recommends--the Omega.
www.crazysexycancer.com -- Kris Carr is still alive today from her incurable cancer by juicing and she recommends certain juicers too.
Though I cannot verify that they promote certain juicers just because they like them or they get a taste....
I can verify that I get no taste of the action from my promo! (rats--wish I did)! :-)
Hope this helps.
Cheers!

I saw a note on the product specs that it doesn't do a good job with kale, spinach, etc. Do you have the special attachment for the greens or does it work okay with just the base model. Thanks so much for all the information. I can't wait to get started with this. We have been using a very old solid blender for fruit smoothies but want something for vegetables. Hugs! Teri0 -

Hi Teri,
I don't have the special greens attachment (I think that's more for wheatgrass maybe?) and have always juiced greens like kale and spinach and parsley etc with no problem. I just make sure to follow the greens with something more substantial like carrots or beets to help them move through.
Just remember that juicing and blending are two different approaches that give you two different outcomes. The juicer is extracting the nutrients from the fiber to get you optimal power-packed nutrition giving your digestive system a break. Blending you're going to get all the fiber mixed in.
I did both too....blended my fruit for smoothies and juiced my veggies. It's a great combo! A winner!
Hope this helps.

I have the Lalanne and it juices wonderfully. There is no heat - it comes out fine. The issues with the enzymes is time - ideally, you should drink your juice within 24 hours according to my naturopath. After that, the enzymes are somewhat depleted.0 -

Hi Emily,
That makes sense and good to know. I am ready to try this out. Good way to get my daughter to eat vegetables too as she is not a fan of any vegetable! I love your picture!
Thanks for all the good info!

I have heard about the timing issue, not good idea to store the juice for too long. That is good to know as some people try to save time and make it ahead. Thanks,

so i eat the enzymes, froth and the thicker surface slugy stuff sraight away. then i sip the first glass over about 5 minutes.
i chew my juice slowly, to activate the saliva and digestion processes from the start.
also i start the day with lemon juice and water, about an hours later i do the first vegetable juice with beet, carrot, celery, tumeric, brocolli.
after this cancer retreat i have the idea of juicing the greens separately. the retreat kitchen uses the champion, this retreat had the greens attachment and it broke within the first week of use. i don't have one, not planning to at this point.

thanks for all the great advise about Juicing. I just recently read about the lemon juice and water and how lemons are supposed to be good to shrink many types of tumors....sure beats chemo..interesting about the enzymes from greens. I am ordering our juicer today and can't wait to get started. I hope we can find good organic stuff around here. Thanks again and enjoy the rest of your retreat!

I got into juicing due to Emtko683 said:that makes sense

I got into juicing due to Em and this board. I was doing smoothies, fruit, a lot- and really had a high intake of veggies and plenty of fiber. And just existing in my little fruit world. Then I got the "omega" juicer- and switched more to green veggies, strictly due to the high carbs in most fruits. I love that the juicer pulls and beats the pulp outta the vegetable, I feel like I have a huge benefit to just the JUICE alone. Personally my favorite recipe is from Em- carrots, spinach, parsley, green apple and ginger. Yummy. I also like beets with anything else. Beets and a good chunk of ginger will do me for the day!
My grandson, 3.5, likes green apple, carrots and ginger.
Happy Juicing to you!0 -

its so easy, you will feel better from day 1 , make sure you make enough to share with
partner and any friends visiting. then you can toast to good health.
noone gets a coffee at my place anymore, but the juice is free and unlimited.
not many newbies ask for seconds. my mix is touch rough for the unitiated.
I drink it with a smile, it gets them every time.
the retreat was just great. it was just wonderful having my juices made everyday.
some people did not have their juice. i was always hovering around mopping seconds and sometimes thirds. i got a little organge glow that will settle in a few more days.
they used more carrots then i do normally.
