A big lump

in Esophageal Cancer #1
My husband has developed a big lump on the side of his neck. It's the right side, the same side that he had radiated. It's bigger than a golf ball and it's painful. I first noticed it a couple of days ago when I gave him a hug on that side and he mentioned that something was "bugging" him on that side. I called the nurse line and they suggested I bring him in to the ER which I did. At the ER they did blood work and a CT scan. They said the scan looked the same as his last one which was done about a month ago. Last night when a friend left our house and went to hug him it was very painful. I'm trying to get ahold of the doctor and bring him back in. Has anyone else experienced these painful lumps?

    lump speculation
    You are on the right track. Get it checked out by a competent doctor. Could be anything including scar tissue from prior radiation treatments but it needs further study.

    The lump
    Thanks for your feedback. The lump is right on his neck kind of under and in front of the ear. I'm still working on getting him seen. I hope you're right and it's just scar tissue or something similar and harmless.

    Please get hubby checked out. You never know what it could be and the longer you wait.............well you know what I mean.

    Please keep us informed. Hopefully its just scar tissue.

    My husband had a big lump come up on his clavical bone as well. They did a biopsy and found that the cancer had spread to his bones. He had a pet scan and found it in all his bones. He has been given 6 to 8 months to live and now under hospice care to manage the pain. I pray that will not be the case for you.
