hello everyone,

its been 1 year and 1 month since i ve had my hyroid surgery anf from then on i have been only on my thyroid supplements. i am not having any tablets other than thyroxin and i have krimson - 35 ( contraceptive pills ) to regularise my periods.

i feel depressed, sad and lonely most of the time. i feel irritable at life and things around me as i feel i have none to understand wat i feel or go through. form eveyone around me i am just a girl who is out of cancer and its been a year but they have no idea wat goes inside my head or body. i once told my husband tat i could feel something moving inside my body from one place to another and he made fun of me. i am not making this up. but i did feel tat day some feeling of something moving from my head to toe.

and when i talk to him about anti-depressants he is sayin i dont need it and i am behaving like an idiot. he is sayin i look fine and its all in my mind. i feel so lost at times. he talks to me about how much he cannot let go off his life for my sake. i feel miserable thinking y i am with someone at all. maybe life would have been easier for me if i was single. i wont have the constant feeling im a burden.

do i need to have anti - depressants ?

    need or would help
I don't know if you NEED anti-depressants or not.

I do think they would probably help on your next doctors visit you might ask about them.

you might also look up some herbal stuff that may help your mood.

Before you go taking anti-depressants, I would see your family doctor and perhaps get into some counseling.

I have been in counseling since my whole cancer thing started in 1993 and I have found it to be of great help. It's nice to be able to bounce your thoughts, ideas, concerns and joys off of someone who won't look at you or talk to you like you're stupid. I know I can say "Doc, am I crazy or am I nailing this"? And she'll be straight up with me. Sometimes she will say, "what were you thinking" or "no, I think you pretty much nailed it". Either way, I appreciate her honesty.

As for your husband? I am so sorry that he is not more sympathetic or in tune with you and your needs right now. You haven't said how long you have been married, but his comment about "how he can't let go of his life for your sake" speaks volumes. It sounds to me like he feels it is all about him, based on your comment. If that is what you think he means and you are not happy with how things are going, ask yourself what he would do if the going got really tough?

But as for more medication? Sometimes that is a good idea and sometimes that isn't. I would talk to your doctor about they think is going on and what they believe will help you.

Good luck, you are in my prayers.

    definatly true Teresa
my mind is in a fog again today

yes i went to a mental health professional for a while
I also went through multiple stress counseling

they both helped to an extent, but in my case the medication "FOR NOW" is useful

I agree Nasher. Some people benefit greatly from medication while others, not so much. I would ask your doctor for a complete evaluation and work-up before asking for anti-depressants.

    Either way, good luck!

    Medication
I am one of those that it doesn't work for as most of you know. The side effects are worse than the problem. In fact they don't cure my depression, they make it worse by effecting my thinking and decreasing my libido.

I have gone the natural route. I take Flax seed oil 1000 mg twice a day, plus my other supplements. I exercise as much as possible. At least a half an hour a day to produce endorphins. I am lucky that I have a supportive husband and daughter.

Girllon I probably sound like a broken record but I don't think your husband is healthy for you. Maybe I haven't said it in such a direct way but, there you have it. Knowing that divorce in your culture is taboo is another story, so I don't know what you should do about that. I think you would benefit from counseling if it's available to you. Medication might help you too, it's helped many others. I would recommend trying medication and getting counseling along with a little of the natural method I use as well. This will give you the best odds of pulling out of this dark place you are in.

Still feel your pain every time I read your posts. I wish there was a magic cure or something more I could do for you.

    Blessings,

and there is a ton of diffrent ones
    Other problems with Anti-depressants

    1) may have to go through a few before they find one that "works" for you
the first one they put me on did nothing... nada no helpfull or side effects at all.
the 2nd one worked decent though
    2) they become less usefull the longer your on it...
they recently dubbled my anti-depressant i can go up 3 more times on this one before they need to find a new one and swap me
    3) each time they swap you anti depressants... well talk about major side effects from both and withdraw from the one you were on as you wean down from it.

Another vote for the natural solution
Just another reason to go with what nature gave us. I am certainly not against med's but they just aren't a permanent solution.

    Anti-Depressants
I agree with Julie and Nasher. I had the same problems that Julie did on the meds. I was like a robot you could program. I had no emotions and didn't care about anything while on the meds. I was given an anti-depressant and an anti-anxiety medication at the same time and they worked against each other.

I have found the "natural" method works better for me. That and my counseling. I would advise that you do what you think will work best for you, not for someone else, like your husband Like Julie, I have been Blessed with an incredible husband who supports me and my medical care, regardless of the personal cost.

    Good luck sweetheart!

First and foremost. That is a decision to be made between you and a qualified, caring Psychiatrist. I would also seek a Psychologist with a PhD. The husband, not so much. He is supposed to be your partner and best friend. I am sorry he isn't acting as one in your time of need. I am a thyroid cancer patient. I go to a Psychiatrist and I take both antidepressants and anti anxiety medications right now. The SSRI's were impossible for me to take due to the side effects, but that's me. I do well on Tricyclic Imipramine. Again, a decision (to take seriously and over a long discussion with them, not a five to fifteen minute interview)between you and a good psychiatrist.

You are dealing with a lot right now. A husband who doesn't have your back. No therapist. Cancer. Seek professional help so you can get through this difficult time. AND if you are on a synthetic form of thyroid replacement, you MUST discuss ANY "natural" alternative medications, because some do not mix well. And, you do not know what is in them or which time you buy it if it is going to be the same fillers or not. Same as with Levothyroxine: three manufactures who use different fillers. Just be careful and smart and make an EDUCATED decision with professionals.

In closing, read this book by Krishan Chopra "Your Life Is In Your Hands." Skip the chapters you may not believe in (religion/spirituality) but read that book.
