Is it just me ??

I have also
noticed that at no time since I joined have I ever seen more than 50 people on the boards. Is that because there is a limit to how many can be on here at once and you have to wait until a free spot opens up in order to get in?
I have also noticed that during certain times, especially the evening, it tends to get really slow.
What I would also like to see is subcategories under the main categories: for instance, under Brain Cancer, make categories of Astrocytomas, Glios, Meningiomas, etc. It's difficult to find the posts when there is nothing but similiar posts about Astrocytomas, etc. Would make for easier navigating.
Regardless, it is nice to have these boards to come to.

Well, it's nice to know that it's not just me that gets frustrated.
Teresa, it might be no more than 50 registered members, but there are also many lurkers that don't register, but are cruising around looking for info. So there is way more traffic on the site then you can see.
What the heck else was I going to say? Oh! Old posts. I don't know if I would want them to delete all the old content. Do you think that is what makes it slower? I was thinking my issues stemmed from my crappy connection and from a lot of traffic on the server.0 -

I don't know for sure, D, if too much data.....( messages, pictures, other files ) on a server actually can slow it down, but I would think that just as removing files from one's hard drive can increase the speed, then the same with all the old posts on a given server. But I'll leave that up to some IT person to respond or someone with alot more computer smarts than me.

I guess what you said does make sense. I know nothing about computers and I don't get along with electronics, so I've no clue.0 -

As Larry mentions, a website in it's simplest form is just a folder of files on some computer. Given the size and resources, those can be on many hard drives or computers tied together in different arrays and redundancy of hard drives,etc...
I have a basic concept and in the past had a few computers setup as FTP servers back a few years ago when file sharing was more popular.
Most forums that I belong to now do have various limits and controls. One forum actually limits there posts to 90 days, anything past that gets wiped.
I'm not sure how the CSN Forums are managed and maintained, it is a very large system with many members.
I too would hate to see it wipe out older posts...at least save a few years for searching and researching.

another frustrated member
I get so frustrated when I write a long response and it vanishes. I have had it happen up to three times on the same post and have given up. I will have to remember John's suggestion to paste to clip board when I have a long response.0 -

Anything I type, I hit copy to save it, on this site or any site I'm on. There are times I have to try and get an answer posted 3-4 times. So, I don't even think about it anymore. It's become automatic.0 -

You get use to it after a while

Speed Varys
Larry, you are correct, and I suppose that Splinter is also...sometimes it's fast, other times it is so slow it times out and doesn't even reload.
Here's a little trick that I do...doesn't do anything to speed the site up, but it does help me.
I'll scan the list of threads that I'm interested in looking at or replying. Then I'll right click on each and open in a new tab.
That way, most of the time they are loaded by the time I go back and check each individual tab.
Another that I usually do, especially on a longer reply to a post. I'll copy my reply before posting it...that way if it gets lost or boots me out, I can save it to the clipboard and copy/paste it when I get the thread back.
Too many times have I typed out a long response to someone and lost it all.
Best,
John0
