PET scan & BCBS
I too have BCBS of Texas and I get my PET scans every 6 months and have been doing so for the past 6 years now at MD Anderson, so far they never called and questioned it. On the problem with dental I too am having that issue with them not wanting to cover it. My teeth were in great shape before my cancer and it was the treatment from Cancer that did the damage not lack of care. I go on the 25 to see how much it will cost to fix them or pull them all out; just not sure what will be the best way just yet, as it will come out of my pocket.
What I do find is people think when you have cancer you become rich and have a lot of money. Because everyone I go to want more money then what I have and I have to tell them cancer people are not rich because we are always paying bills and you are just another bill to pay.
Praying from both you & Bob

Hi Hondo, I suspect the attitude is worse than that. I think they believe we're in dire need of care, and expect that fact to nudge us into spending more than we have . . . but you knew that. Ask AIDs survivors how much their insurance company had to pay for their meds. Harder to ask those who didn't have insurance.

I still get my pet scans, I am 28 months out from tx and had a pet on September 21, My radiation oncologist and my oral surgeon got together and persuaded the insurance company to pay for all of my dental work and hyperbaric, twice, I have just had all of my teeth taken out and the insurance paid 100% with no copay. Sorry
I am sorry to read about Bob and what you guys are going through.
I cannot believe your insurance won't pay for the tube food. That's ridiculous.
Hang in there you guys.0 -

I wonder why BCBS TX won't pay for Bob's PET and they pay for your's...must be different plans...the teeth issue is also MAJOR...we have fought them over every penny they have had to pay...I know we all get anxious when it comes time for Scans...but in your or anyones Opinion does a CT Scan even compare to a PET? I do not think so and Bob is still not able to eat real food...maybe because he is tognue tied and his tognue is still like a rock, but he also lost his swallow so even when he drinks water he cough's..it worries me...alot. I agree when you get cancer they must think you have an endless amount of money...Cancer is not cheap! I wish there was a better way for people to get quailty care here in America at a reasonable cost...we will be paying bill's for years to come, but the main thing is Bob is alive and everyone else here is...money helps, but look at for example Micheal jackson he had money Fame...but was never truly happy...so it shows money only hepls pay the bill's it does not make anyone happier...but a bit more sure would be nice...then we could pay out of pocket for the PET. When they called to cancel his PET the woman said do you have Barrium at home...DUH sure we have a case of it laying around...OMG so Bob is at the U almost every week for Dental work etc...so he stopped by and picked up a bottle so he does not have to sit for 2 hours and wait...prayers to you and everyone else here that as we each battle the after effect's it get's easier...good luck with your teeth issues, it is a shame how people who had such great teeth end up having them ruined by the treatment's, but as I said before at least Lives have been saved that is the MOST Important part.0 -
Sorry for your trials
It is enough to deal with the treatment and living expenses let alone the medical bills. Even the little things that insurance doesn't cover add up. Biotene, antacids, lotions, lip balm, etc. The thing that really gets me is when I get the bill and it says, charges total 23,000 and the insurance paid 2,200 with you paying 800. WHERE DID THE REST OF THE BILL GO? I guess that is why the non insured get charged the full amount, someone has to pay.
Just heard on NBC that chemo drug companies charge 650% mark up on their drugs leaving uninsured or non insured to do without. Shame on the drug companies and polititians who allow this to happen.0
