Anyone know how Tina is going?

I'm following behind Tina and always take an interest in how she is going.

I've been off Carbo/Taxol now for about two or three months (my memory is shot since near the end of chemo) and the CA125 is up to 250 now. Just waiting for evident symptoms before starting on a different chemo. I mentioned Avastin .. "No, horses for courses". Don't know what that means in relation to my next chemo. Sounds like he wants to try a different one.

So far, no aware of any ascites, but have had some pain in the pelvic area and slght discomfort a few times across where the omentum would be.

Just keeping an eye on it.

Take care all,

AussieMaddie

Hi: I haven't seen anything on the discussion boards here from Tina either. Maybe try Ovarian?
    Hope she is all right.

    Hello my fellow teal sisters
Sorry I have been missing but I have been feeling a little poorly. I have just finished my second round of Topotecan and have been suffering a little from the side effects.

As you probably know my CA125 shot up to over 1,400 and I had this awful bloating in my stomach area. I had a CT scan and the cancer in my pelvic area had increased. I was not surprised by this as I had been getting some pain there. However, I had NO ascites - just bloating. Also my lungs were clear (in the past I get fluid around my lungs)

So I am on Topotecan. 1 week I get an infusion every day and then I get 2 weeks off. I had my numbers done after my first infusion and they had gone up to 1,727. I was mortified and quite upset. BUT my bloating was going and I felt quite well. A few weeks ago I had my second infusion and I stuggled all week with nausea and vomitting. I couldn't do anything and had to take the week off work.

So I went to see my oncologist last week for my second blood work. He was waiting for me and looked quite pleased. My CA125 was 991 and I almost jumped up and kissed him!!!!! He has changed my anti-sickness meds so that should not be a problem next time.

So topotecan is clearly a good chemo for me and the bonus is I still have hair on my head. I am wearing a cold cap because the infusion only lasts 1 hour - so it is bearable.

Thank-you for asking about me and I am back now :)
Much love to you all Tina xxxxx

PS I hope you are all well. Please let me know how you are.

Interestingly, I haven't had any ascites that I know of but have had some pain in the pelvic area as well. Maybe I need to look at that as a possible symptom as well, even if I don't get the asictes??

I'm sorry you've been feeling poorly, but it is good news that the CA125 is finally coming down for you.

    Good going!

Glad you're more or less OK, Tina
Good to know, Tina. I'm doing all right - just finished the 10th round of oxaliplatin + irenotecan + 5FU, two more to go. Then we'll see what the plans are - surgery? more chemo? nothing? the scans show stability and decrease which is good. Feel great right now - have a bad 3-5 days after the 5FU pump comes off but I know the good days are coming. Chemo again on Friday.

    any plans for surgery?
Tina: I know you have never had surgery. Has your oncologist said anything about you possibly getting surgery?

I am so happy to hear that you are responding to your new chemo! That temporary jump in the CA-125 was probably just a result of tumor die off. And your lungs are doing well, too! Once you get that nausea under control, you'll be so much better.

    No surgery
My oncologist don't think surgery will make any difference for me. However, I ask about it every time I go as I think my ovaries are certainly diseased. On my last visit my oncologist said he will review it when I have finished this current chemo.

I never thought about the "tumor die off" but it makes sense. So pleased about my lungs and they are still clear :) Will be having new anti-sickness meds next week so things are looking up.

    Take care love Tina xxx

    Hi Tina,
    I'm glad that

    Hi Tina,

I'm glad that things are looking up at present. Like you, my onc. isn't considering surgery either, just chemo. Might be starting to have a couple of symptoms so I rang the oncologist's stand-in who will bring it up with my onc. who arrives back tomorrow for an earlier appointment and look like have CT scan at least. I'll be glad to know how it's going.

Glad to hear that your lungs are clear :)

    Take good care,

Good to hear from you Tina! Sorry though about the side effects but good that it seems to work!

Update on mum is fairly good too. She has problems with her feets due to the carbo/tax but is on for the 7th round tomorrow. In between she is doing well, up on her feet and even went for a dinner party with her friends! Major if you ask me.. I am happy she is doing so good considering the circumstances (i.e not depressed).

She might have a brak after this chemo, we all hope so.

    Happy thoughts,
