How many hours or days after I131 does one go off the low iodine diet for maximum 131 effect ?

I've heard one day, two days, and five days. Which did your doc recommended ? Do you stay on it longer than recommended ?

    I was told that I could eat
    I was told that I could eat a regular diet after the third day of taking RAI. They said that by that time all of the cells that were going to take up the RAI had already taken up. I ate my regular diet after the full three days because I didn't feel that it would do any good to stay on LID if that was the amount of time the RAI would absorb. Staying on the diet after that point would be a personal choice.

    Longer than I hoped....
    Hey there....

    My ENDO told me to resume normal diet and to start thyroid replacement med AFTER the whole body scan which is exactly one week from my RAI :( not what I hoped for but it is what it is....LOL

    RAI yesterday so the countdown begins :)

    What did your doc tell you???

    One day
    All my docs said 24 hours, but I did 48 hours. They told me that in high risk patients there is no proof that the LID helps at all.
