Low Hemoglobin
turned into 10 days. Multiple problems. But one I wanted to ask you guys about. How long
should a blood transfusion keep the hemoglobin count up. He had one transfusion when he
went in, than another one yesterday. They did give him his chemo last Friday, (after the
transfusion the previous Sunday). But would chemo make it drop that fast after a transfusion? Has anyone else had the experience of the hemoglobin
dropping that fast? They say they can find no internal bleeding. Also, it really scares
me, but he talks daffy a lot. Nurses said it was because of the low blood count. Does
that happen? Thanks for your help. As usual I am struggling with all of this, so will be
good to hear from anyone. Brenda

Hi Brenda. I don't know much about this situation. Sorry, no help. Maybe others could help with knowing of any questions you could ask. I'm sure, though, this is one of those things that you can trust in the healthcare team. Hopefully it gets back on track soon. Please let us know his progress.0 -

Hi,
Before my surgery in July I had 2 rounds of blood transfusions due to anemia. The first one on a friday and was back in the hospital the following Monday because I was so weak. After being admitted, the Dr. said my blood count was low again. I was not on chemo at the time but i did have 2 transfusions back to back.

thanks Tessa. Did your count get better or does it continue to give your problems?
He came home from the hospital yesterday after the surgery to correct bleeding from the
stoma. But I just finished bathing him and changing all the bedding because it just bled
so bad he had to compress it for 15 minutes. The dr and I will have to have a chat tomorrow, because whatever they did, didn't correct it. I am afraid it is internal
bleeding, another thing for him to go through. Every day is a challenge, isn't it???
Take care, Brenda0 -

Hi Brenda,
I just had my oncology visit on Monday and my count was normal. It has taken me since april of this year to get to a normal reading. The oncologist told me to stop taking my vintron-c that I had been taking for months twice a day. I did have an endoscopy to check for internal bleeding before the second transfusion, which was negative.
