I have mucous occasionally, but have never noticed specks of blood in it. However, I do notice that sometimes it has a pinkish tinge, indicating to me that there's probably some blood within it. Most of the time it will just be a brownish color. I'm 3 years out from treatment.
I have't had much mucous .I got done with my treatments in Jan 2011. Shirley0 -

I didn't have much either, maybe I just didn't notice it. I did notice it one time, but if there were other times I just didn't know. I guess it goes to show we all heal differently.

Yes, I agree with your advise - never trust a fart. I'm 3 months post treatment and have mucous discharge. I just discovered that Cottonelle has individual packets - handy to keep in one's purse. I found Sam's Club brand of baby wipes to be the best and least expensive. My 3 month old great niece and I use the same brand - LOL. When I'm home I run (not literally) in boxer shorts so air can get to the area.
I agree with you never trust a fart lol.i,m 9 months out .I just started getting mucous clear with some blood in it.I have wipes in my purse and pads & butt cream at all times .I need to get me some boxer shorts .What do you buy are they mens?0 -

Yes, I've bought men's boxer shorts. I get the baggy leg kind not the form fitting ones. I also found women's sleepwear shorts that are comfy. Try J.C. Penneys. Just something that is loose. Even though my burns are healed I still wear them around the house. During treatment when the crease of my legs were raw, I didn't want anything touching them and thus the boxer shorts.0 -

It's the only way I know, it's time to go. Feels like the "Alien" every time, which is numerous. If I don't throw up or break out in the sweats, it's a good day. My doctor says this is ok for Me as long as there is no blood. Of course after pooping 8-10 times, there is a little blood. I had a colonscopy 3 months ago and everything checked out. I will be a year out on dec 8th. I am glad u checked with your doctor.

I don't recall cramping, I just know since we are in the healing process, any food that the colon to rectal to anus that our bodies will not tolerate will be expunged. I know sometimes I would eat and it would go right through me. Are you drinking plenty of water? That might help with the digestion of the food. I'm glad your doctor is aware of what your experiencing and I hope the medicine will alleviate the cramping. lori0 -

I am 2 weeks post radiation
I am 2 weeks post radiation and have had mucus drainage for the past few weeks. I still have some burns in the vaginal and anal area but I never really had them bad. I'm just wondering how long they take to heal and does anyone still experience pain with bowel movements after the burns are healed? I really want to drink a few beers especially on new years eve this Saturday, but don't want to while on Oxycontin. I'm trying really hard to stop taking them but the pain doesn't want to stop.

Mucus
I still have mucus and I'm a year out. Changing to lactose free milk has helped with diarrhea and it seems like maybe cut down on cramping. My radiation burns healed in about a month. I seem to have more blood than others, the other day I "trusted a fart" and it was all blood clots. I wear pads 24/7 so no big deal. I've been assured blood is not cancer recurrence, just proctitis, just had anoscopy in November.

My burns were much better by the end of 2 weeks. I am 8+ years out of treatment and, on occasion, I will have a painful BM if I have become constipated and the stool is very hard. I hope you can enjoy your New Year's Eve. Take care.
Congratulations on being 8 years out. I have been wondering how long people have survived. I'm 45 with a 22 year old daughter that is a 3rd grade teacher and getting married this summer. I want to be here to see that and meet and spoil my grand kids and maybe great grand kids.
This mucus is disgusting, but I just wear a pad at all times and its no big deal. As long as I'm alive, I'll do whatever I have to, to get through each day.
I haven't had many problems with constipation, but it still doesn't feel great to have a bm. I'm hoping that will ease up some soon. I do take senna every night before bed now that I am done with radiation, that helps.
Thanks again for your speedy reply. Happy New Year!

Wendi--
Please check out this website. While it was written up for men who have undergone radiation for prostate cancer, I believe it's quite applicable to anyone, male or female, who has had pelvic radiation for anal cancer or other types of cancers. You'll see that there is quite a list of issues post-treatment than can occur, mucous discharge being one.
Thanks for the congrats on my 8+ years of survival. I feel very fortunate. That said, there have been ups and downs and there are some things that I will be dealing with for the rest of my life. I am grateful that I am here to ring in another New Year. Thank you for the wishes and I hope your 2017 is full of blessings!
