We got our first SSD check in our bank account today. It sure has been a long 6 months.
Cancer free and money in the bank, I have to say, things are getting better.

Well that is good.
I am sure it's a great relief! My first check was back pay, and was a big one. Which I had to promptly pay to my disability insurance company. Oh well. It sure would have been good to keep, but that's life. I'm just so thankful for everything I do have.0 -

Glad to hear things are getting better for you.
Did you file on line? Did it take the full six months from filing to receiving your first check?
No, we filed over the phone. He was to sick at the time to go in, plus they said the approval process goes faster going to your local SSI Office. We got approved in a few weeks. Yes, we had to wait the full 6 months to get our first check with no back pay, because we filed the day he quit working. You can also be eligible to get SSI Supplemental income to get you buy until your SSD kicks in. Unfortunately, we did qualify for the SSI Supplemantal due to my income.0 -
Congratrulations!!
Congratulations!!! It's a really long 6 months, believe me I know from experience, but now life will be a little easier knowing that check will be there each month. Hard enough to deal with cancer without worrying about how you are going to survive. So happy for both of you!!0
