No Shame In Needing Pain-Killers
So sorry you are in so much agony. I'm sure no one on this board will fault you for trying to get a little relief from medication. We all know that the meds do not make you feel "well" or "healthy"; the meds just let you get through your day.
Of course, I hope your pain will resolve and you will no longer need the meds. Rick.0 -
Do what you must
David,
Great to be gallant but do not suffer in pain if you can help it. We all go through enough without the pain. I hope the stuff is helping you and I can identify with the "not getting a buzz". I really believe that those who need it do not get the high.
Be tough but don't be stupid.
My best to you.

its hard to be taking medication especially if your not used cto taking tablets before the treatment. im sorry you have so much pain to deal with. As you know its important to eat and communicate and the pain meds allow this then take the meds. you could always try cutting the meds down if that helps but maybe its early days for you. im only 3 weeks out of hospital and i take pain meds to eat as it helps me. i think what we are coping with is bad enough never mind being in pain. hope this helps.0 -
Hi David
I was on oxycontin for about 6 months due to all the pain I was having on the left side of my face. I started having problems with the medicine and had to get off of it, the mistake I made was I did it with out asking my doctor. I went cold turkey getting off and believe me that is something I will never do again. For now you need to deal with the pain the best you can and if the medicines are helping you then stay on then as long as you need. When it is time your doctor will put you on a reduce schedule to slowly get you off of them.
Wishing you well on the pain

Don't worry
I haven't been on any of the oxys since they were getting me ramped up for the morphine and fentanyl so all I can say is maybe you are better off with a stronger med that you don't have to take as often. The fentanyl patches give such an even dose that I completely forget that I am on pain killers of any kind and the morphine is for breakthrough pains that have become fairly infrequent any more.
I'd talk to your doctor and take the psychological burden of the pain killers off your back completely as they are the least of your problems in my humble opinion.

Thank you Hondo and after lurking for the past few months while reaping the benefits of all this good advise I figured it was time to stop hiding. You have a great group here.0 -
Cut back on dose
My advice would be to talk with your doctor about a lower dosage of oxycodone and the Oxycontin. It believe the oxycodone comes in 5 mg and the Oxycontin in 10 mg. You would still have to take meds at the same time intervals but you would be backing down how much you are taking. Your dosage is pretty high to try to just stop taking it suddenly. After adjusting to a lower dose then maybe you could work your way off the pain meds.
