Pain Meds

I know everyone is different. I just would like to get a general idea when everyone was able to stop taking pain meds. My husband is a little over 4 months out and is still in pain and very weak. He takes 2 morphines a day and 2-4 vicodins. The radiation doctor told him a month ago that he would be feeling much better. That is not the case at my house.

    Pain
Pat was on fentanyl patch and vicodin until about six months out and he has a very high tolerance of pain. Drs also told him he would ne feeling better. We were so worried, but pain did eventually subside. I think it takes longer to get strength and stamina back. Hang in there. It does get better.

    Praying for you.

    PAIN
Sorry to hear he is still in pain. I was on Fentanyl patch for about 4-5 months. it took a good 2 months just to properly come off of the medication to avoid opiate withdrawls. Stupid me, I quit cold turkey twice and went through the "creepy crawlies".

As far as how long to be on meds, everyone is different.

    Take care

    STOP
You mean you are supposed to STOP taking them.....

That's what helps me tolerate most of the people that I work with on a daily basis...LOL.

Like mentioned everyone is different, but at some point he should try to start tapering off to make sure it's just not a physical thing.

It's hard for some people to realize when they are actually needed for the original pain, or that you have just become used to taking them and your mody and mind still things you are in need or pain if you don't take them.

    Best,
    John

    Hi arndog

Remember how we are all different, right after treatment I was off of them in a few months. Now years later I am back on them again and have been for a years now and looks like it will be that way for the rest of my life..

    Wishing you well

    Hi John

I can be one mean dude with out my pain meds. The way I look at it now is if it makes my life to where I can live and not be depressed and sickly feeling all the time, I am going to take them. I will worry about becoming addicted and getting off of them after I die.

I wish they would approve medical marijuana for uses in people with cancer
