Well....I have been dealing with this for about 2 months now and am on my 2nd rad and finished my first chemo.

The Doc says she is sure she can cure me of this but it is tough to take comfort in this when I thought i just had a allergys for 2 years.lol

I am 43 and have Chinese ancestry from my great grand father but smoked for 30 years. I find myself over analyzing the whys of it all and getting all worked up about it. Seems to me that I feel best about it when I work on accepting it as it comes and not how I would like it to turn out.

I am very gratefull for the Doctors I have...Seems to me that my ENT really did my right by sending me to OHSU first who then recomended me to certain collueges at The Salem Cancer Institute. They have given me the perfect amount of expertise and compassion.

So...I dont know what else to say...just thought it was time to talk to others.

Tell you one gift of all this thats become very important to me. I have realized my Mom was right all along,love is the most important thing.

    Your spelling was close (geal- not gial), but we like to simplify to NPC. I'm a 28-month NPC Survivor, and I'm a rookie compared to some others.

    At your stage, I wasn't analyzing the whys and wherefores, as I remember. Try to keep it in the Positive- you are gonna survive this thing, no matter how rough the treatment gets, and life will be good on the other side of tx. Past doesn't really matter, now- the present and future is enough to deal with. You're gonna be okay- AND YOU WILL SURVIVE THIS THING.

    Welcome, Kyle. Don't worry so much about the spelling - we all know we all have better things to do than look up "correct" spelling for a term we'll recognize, correctly spelled or not (this is a consolation to me when I have probs hitting the right keys). So now, that's two rads and one chemo out of the way - the "to do" list is a little shorter - hope you do well.

    I agree with you - I did (and do) better when I take things as they come, take action to improve my situation when I can, and accept what Iit when I can't. Beating yourself up for smoking will not do a thing to help you during this fight (unless, of course, you want to smoke again - then, in my opinion - whatever keeps you from lighting up is a good thing). Keep us posted.

    Our lives appear to be parallel; enjoying life with the family and on this last July 8th, things changed... life gave me a detour. 2 surgeries later and am now starting radiation next week.

    The people on here are a great resource for information and fantastic support, both very important, which gives me hope and a very positive outlook on this journey.

    Try to keep your focus on the end of this detour. I keep giving thanks for all of the technology that we have now versus in the past.

    Especially when it comes to the enemy. NPC is what we call it on this board but I've got some other names for it. And welcome by the way. Doesn't really matter how you got here; maybe even best not to dwell on it. All your energy is now needed for beating the crap out of this thing and keeping yourself as healthy as possible. Get your diet right, exercise as much as you can and ask as many questions as you want. Oh, your mom was right. They always are. Much love to you brother. Kick ****!

    Yep you are in the right place for NPC Cancer, like Kent said there are quite a few of us here and all of us have been through the treatment some more than once.

    Just so you know Life is great after your treatment ends so stay focus and keep positive it will all help your body to stay healthy.

    You will be fine
    My wife is about to start her third round chemo for her stage 4 NP cancer. You will be fine. Be strong, have faith, and pray. They ran a ct scan against the tumor between stage 1 and 2 and it shrunk 60%. Now go kick butt.

    Kyle, sorry you are dealing with this beast. You have come to the right place. A lot of wisdom and experience and most important prayers and support in this group. The treatment is rough at times, but your young (my husband is 77 and just finished tx) and you will get through it. One thing you will hear, "everyone is different" and that is true. My husband did not have a lot of pain but the chemo was rough on his kidneys. Others have not had too many side effects from chemo but a lot of pain. I am praying you sail through the treatment and have a quick recovery.

    Stay positive Kyle. You'll make it through. As an 8-year NPC survivor, I was glad to have the a great team of doctors & family by my side. I was caught on Stage 4C & was felt very ill the time I was diagnosed. Eat healthy & stay active while you can. & as AB said, Much love to you brother. Kick ****!

    You are about like me, my NPC started in November of 2002 but I had it come back December 2003 for a re-match. If that was not bad enough it came back again in March of 2006. But all in all I am still here and doing well for someone with all the radiations and chemo I had.
