16 months post op total laryngectomy

Hello
My name is Brenda and my husband Jim had a total laryngectomy 16 months ago. I cannot beleive how scared we both were about what our future would hold, how would get through it all, but we did. We have been on a huge emotional rollercoaster but have learned such a lot and we know our positivity and our ' glass half full' approach has made us stronger. I joined this site mainy to try and help anyone who is about to go through this life changing surgery, well I say life changing but once you get to grips with the stoma cleaning daily and all the little things that become second nature life does become normal! whatever that is. I would be happy to hear from anyone who just wants to chat or ask me anything that I may be able to help. Jim and I live in Bonnie Scotland and I look forward to being a part of the discussions boards.

    Hi Brenda, I am a Brit living in the US, when I found out about my cancer I thought it was going to be a laryngectomy, fortunately the cancer was not too advanced and I went with radio and chemo. there is a site in Britain called Laryngectomy Life, I don't whether you have looked at it but it's a great site. denis

    Hi Brenda
    My family is from Scotland the McNab clan my Dad would often tell us stories about the Mother land as he called it. Hey sorry to hear about your journey with C but like you said it just makes you stronger. I am happy you are part of the CSN family now and hope you plan to stay as many of us do just to help someone else who is just starting along the way.

    Different type of cancer with me, too, but I did want to welcome you. I went to England and Scotland in 2004, and I fell in love with Scotland! I'd go back in a heart beat! I didn't want to come home.

    Yeah I do go on to laryngectomy life and it is a great site. I guess I hope to spread my support across the pond as we both know the importance of this. Brilliant that rads and chemo was sufficient. Unfortunately Jim's tumour was a t4 and the op was our only option. Thank you to all who welcomed me on to this site I look forward to communicating with you all.

    Hi Brenda, when you go to LL look out for Christine and Elspeth, Christine is from Wales her husband had his laryngectomy 6 years ago, Elspeth is from Scotland, they propped me up every time I kept slipping in 2009

    Will do, think I have seen Elspeth's name a lot I am sure she is from Fife, that will do me as my dear Mum was a Fifer!
